Not Copying Tiger Mom IS Un-American

Hi folks its Mike Church with todays Church Doctrine

I have recently discovered that there is a new breed of mom out there roaming the Suburban American landscape. She is called Tiger mom and is personified by Harvard law professor Amy Chua. Chua has come under attack for her book Why Chinese mothers are superior, her crime?  Denying her children long school nights playing XBox and has demanding that they achieve straight As .

Chua  even expected her piano lesson taking daughter to practice a piano composition until she could actually play it. I have a piano lesson taking daughter and she bails after 30 minutes of trying to learn Hey Jude.

Maybe I should buy an abacus.

Seriously, in an age when Americans are confronting the cold reality that our lofty place in the world continues to precipitously fall we seem repulsed by the idea of correcting the slide. You could say that this is a patently un-American thing to do. This is most likely the reason Amy Chua has drawn such attention, her kids arent falling.

It also seems to not occur to most Americans that the reason admitting the fall is so painful is precisely because our ascension was so great. Maybe  instead of vilifying Amy Chua,  we should try and copy her?
