Pat Buchanan Wants To Know “Who Made Obama The Wyatt Earp Of The Global Village?”

todayAugust 29, 2013 8

Background

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – We have made the predictions of Osama bin Laden come true.  We’re about, it seems to me, to make another one come true, that the United States will in fact aid and abet the cause of radical Islam across that cauldron, that simmering cauldron we call the Middle East.  Where are the cooler heads?  Where are the statesmen of the day?  Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Neither the Security Council nor Congress nor NATO nor the Arab League has authorized war on Syria. Moreover, where is the evidence that WMDs were used and that it had to be Assad that ordered them? Such an attack makes no sense.

article-v-pamphlet-adFiring a few shells of gas at Syrian civilians was not going to advance Assad’s cause but, rather, was certain to bring universal condemnation on his regime and deal cards to the War Party which wants a U.S. war on Syria as the back door to war on Iran.

Why did the United States so swiftly dismiss Assad’s offer to have U.N. inspectors – already in Damascus investigating old charges he or the rebels used poison gas – go to the site of the latest incident?

Do we not want to know the truth?

Are we fearful the facts may turn out, as did the facts on the ground in Iraq, to contradict our latest claims about WMDs? Are we afraid that it was rebel elements or rogue Syrian soldiers who fired the gas shells to stampede us into fighting this war?

With U.S. ships moving toward Syria’s coast and the McCainiacs assuring us we can smash Syria from offshore without serious injury to ourselves, why has Congress not come back to debate war?

[Mike: This is the most salient part of Buchanan’s argument.] Lest we forget, Ronald Reagan was sold the same bill of goods the War Party is selling today – that we can intervene decisively in a Mideast civil war at little or no cost to ourselves.

Reagan listened and ordered our Marines into the middle of Lebanon’s civil war. And he was there when they brought home the 241 dead from the Beirut barracks and our dead diplomats from the Beirut embassy.

The only thing we learn from history is that we do not learn from history. Congress should cut short its five-week vacation, come back, debate and decide by recorded vote whether Obama can take us into yet another Middle East war.

Founders TV – We Want Regime Change! When Do We Want It? When Obama Says So!

The questions to which Congress needs answers:

Do we have incontrovertible proof that Bashar Assad [Mike: Even if we had proof, for what purpose, for what compelling national security, common defense interest would our troops be flung into this conflict?] ordered chemical weapons be used on his own people? And if he did not, who did?

What kind of reprisals might we expect if we launch cruise missiles at Syria, which is allied with Hezbollah and Iran?

If we attack, and Syria or its allies attack U.S. military or diplomatic missions in the Middle East or here in the United States, are we prepared for the wider war we will have started?

Mike:  Of course, we won’t bear any blame for this. [mocking] “They started it.  They’re the ones that fired the first shot.”  No, they didn’t!  Of course, ladies and gentlemen, to think any of these things, you have to have some humility.  Humility has to come first.  Humility would say that ‘tis not my place to intervene, thus the creed of the non-interventionists.  We haven’t even gotten into Christian just-war theory.  Nothing that has happened in Syria justifies the use of American arms against Syrians.

[reading]

Assuming Syria responds with a counterstrike, how far are we prepared to go up the escalator to regional war? If we intervene, are we prepared for the possible defeat of the side we have chosen, which would then be seen as a strategic defeat for the United States?

If stung and bleeding from retaliation, are we prepared to go all the way, boots on the ground, to bring down Assad? Are we prepared to occupy Syria to prevent its falling to the Al-Nusra Front, which it may if Assad falls and we do not intervene?

The basic question that needs to be asked about this horrific attack on civilians, which appears to be gas related, is: Cui bono?

[end reading]

Mike:  That’s why this is today’s Latin phrase of the day.   Cicero said this in a debate in the Roman senate, asking the questions about a war that was about to be started.  For whose benefit is it?  Who would the detonation of a chemical weapon on the streets of Syria benefit?  Would it benefit Bashar al-Assad?  No.  Would it benefit Al-Qaeda and their allied Al-Nusra Front trying to get the West involved in the war in Syria?  Yes.

The sole beneficiary of this apparent use of poison gas against civilians in rebel-held territory appears to be the rebels, who have long sought to have us come in and fight their war.

Mike:  The points that Patrick J. Buchanan makes here are salient, relevant, constitutional, humble, and provocative all at the same time.  There are very inconvenient answers here.  Can you just imagine a scenario under which, had you been told after learning that it was this group known as Al-Qaeda in September of 2001 that had perpetrated the bombing or the aerial assault on the World Trade Centers in New York, the aerial assault on the Pentagon and Washington, the aerial assault that was prevented by the heroes of Flight 93 over Shanksville, Pennsylvania, can you just imagine any scenario under which, in September 2001 you would have been told and would have believed that someday the United States would join forces with and fight a war with Al-Qaeda, that we would assist them in their remaining jihad waging across areas of the Middle East?

america-secede-or-die-t-shirtFolks, this is exactly what we have done.  We have made the predictions of Osama bin Laden come true.  We’re about, it seems to me, to make another one come true, that the United States will in fact aid and abet the cause of radical Islam across that cauldron, that simmering cauldron we call the Middle East.  Where are the cooler heads?  Where are the statesmen of the day?  Where are those that should be demanding that Congress reconvene right now and deal with what is obviously the business of the people of the United States who are telling pollsters that they do not wish to be involved in another conflict in the Middle East?  Again, this is not an option here.  This is Congress’s sworn duty.

But don’t worry, we’re going to have a tea party protest outside the offices of John Boehner today saying, [mocking] “If you don’t defund Obamacare, then it’s Boehnercare,” because that’s important.  Intractable, unwinnable wars in countries thousands of miles away that cost hundreds of billions if not trillions of dollars put at risk young Americans’ lives and future young Americans’ lives.  Well, that’s just our moral responsibility.  But haranguing John Boehner, who probably won’t even be there — do we know if Boehner is in DC for the protest that’s going to be at his office?  Do you know?

AG:  I’m not positive on that, no.

Mike:  I have the story here.  It doesn’t say whether or not Boehner is actually going to be in his office for the protest.
