Background

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – I don’t know that we won, but at least we won this battle.  The fact the vote didn’t come up and they backed off is good.  The warmongers are really shouting and screaming.  They’re going to scare the people and come up with things to pressure everybody to go back in.  The people are tired of it.  Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mike:  I know we’re supposed to talk education but I just can’t resist.  Are you encouraged by your fellow citizens reacting in the way they reacted to the latest push for a war in Syria?

Ron Paul:  I am.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.  I don’t know that we won, but at least we won this battle.  The fact the vote didn’t come up and they backed off is good.  The warmongers are really shouting and screaming.  They’re going to scare the people and come up with things to pressure everybody to go back in.  The people are tired of it.  They’re tired of the money.  They’re tired of the lack of success.  I think that’s one thing that we as libertarians have going for us, the lack of success in the economy.  The lack of success in foreign policy, look at what this last twelve years has given us.  What good have we done in Libya and Egypt and Iraq and Afghanistan?  Now they want to go into Syria.  Of course, we’re already very much involved in Syria, more than people realize.

america-secede-or-die-t-shirtMike:  The other part of that is, one of the things I remember very fondly about one of your debates when you were running for president, I think it was Brian Williams or somebody asked you the question: Congressman Paul, what would you do if the phone rang in the White House and it was one of the Castro brothers?  And you said?

Ron Paul:  I think I’d say “Why’d you call? What’s on your mind?” Sometimes you think of other answers.  I thought a better answer would be “Challenge the Cubans to a baseball game.”  That might have been a little bit better, which would have been a practical answer when you think about how we started talks with the China even when we were still involved in the Vietnam War.  I like talking to people.  Talking to them is a good idea.  This is why, in spite of my questioning of what the president is doing, it sounds like he might be willing to talk to the Iranians.  I think that’s a positive step.
