I Seldom Take Compliments, But When I Do, They’re historic & [r]epublican

Mandeville, LA  – Listener Linda R. writes to let me know today’s show helped her understand something historic she heard later in the day. I never hear much more than the first hour of your broadcast — BUT today what you taught me helped me understand another broadcast I heard.

I had to go to the bank and I normally have on a local channel (don’t subscribe to satellite in my vehicle since I don’t use the SUV that much) Glenn Beck was on and he had the Nevada rancher on [Cliven Bundy].  Well, the rancher isn’t a good guest with the way he describes things and Glenn and sidekicks  (although he’s been right on some of his programs) didn’t understand the rancher’s problem and  left the rancher continue on (although it was obvious to me they didn’t understand him).  Well,  a big THANKS MIKE  I was able to understand some of what the rancher said thanks to you.  It involved your territory versus state issues –the rancher talked about dates and when Nevada  went from a territory to a state.

[MIKE: I researched NV’s “1864 NV Enabling Act” which explains the conditions under which she wished to enter the Union. One condition was the dispensation of what were then federal lands acquired through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidlalgo with Mexico. I explained the clear intent of the agreement was for the Feds to sell off the remaining “public lands” after NV statehood and even provided a 5% commission to be paid to NV to fund improvements. Because the lands were acquitted through a treaty, they are treated differently then lands ceded by a state or purchased by the Feds for an enumerated power.]

Thanks Mike — I wish I had the time to listen to all 3 hours — I know I learn a lot more than I have; but, you are teaching me more than I ever learned back in the 60’s when I was in Junior High & High School — yeah laugh — that’s what is was called back then.
