Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – What we are witnessing here in the United States today over the issue of what is called religious liberty is very similar to the events that transpired in France during the epoch known as the French Revolution. People refuse to believe this, refuse to acknowledge it. I suspect at the time there were many French that refused to believe and could not believe that the once-great Catholic nation, and it was, of France, that it could undertake such horrors. Check out today’s transcript AND Clip of The Day for the rest….

Begin Mike Church Show Transcript Mike: What we are witnessing here in the United States today over the issue of what is called religious liberty is very similar to the events that transpired in France during the epoch known as the French Revolution. People refuse to believe this, refuse to acknowledge it. I suspect at the time there were many French that refused to believe and could not believe that the once-great Catholic nation, and it was, of France, that it could undertake such horrors. That’s why the epoch was known as the Great Terror. Tens of thousands of people were executed in the public square to screaming, cheering mobs. Carmelite nuns in their habits sent to the guillotine chanting Gregorian chants as they were executed, and people were cheering it.
Do not believe that humanity post-enlightenment is incapable of visiting that here on the peoples of the United States. I should be specific, the Christian peoples of the United States. Again, ladies and gentlemen, the principal issue, I want to reiterate this. I’m going to keep reiterating it over and[private |FP-Monthly|FP-Yearly|FP-Yearly-WLK|FP-Yearly-So76|Founding Brother|Founding Father|FP-Lifetime] over and over again in the hopes that it sticks and begins to mean something to many of you.
It takes a great act of humility for us to admit that we have been mistaken in something that we have done habitually. I have had to deal with and continue to deal with this very act here. The reason that we find ourselves in the predicament that we’re in today, with marriage and homosexual marriage and all the other moral issues, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and all that controversy happening in Indiana and across the amber waves of fuel, again – we must always look for the ultimate cause, not the proximate causes, as they’re called. Some of you that are fans of the Mises Institute may have taken a stab at studying Mises’ works on praxeology. There’s nothing wrong with the study of praxeology, don’t misunderstand. But praxeology is not going to get to ultimate causes. If you can find out what the ultimate cause of something is, then you can get to, as they say, the root of the problem. The ultimate cause of the events and of the controversies as we’re discussing them here today, the ultimate cause, again, is the abandonment by heterosexual, Christian Americans to defend and practice – this is the important part – and practice the old moral code, which is the moral code. There’s only one.
The error that is being committed is, [mocking] “There can be more than one. That’s old, fuddy-duddy. It’s ancient and archaic. We’re modern men.” The error in this manner of thinking is what is at issue here. I don’t want to sound like an old 78 rpm record that you put on repeat over and over and over again. From where I sit, not very many people are saying this. I believe that logically that is the ultimate cause. Look at the most recent example that we have. Governor Pence of Indiana, who I suspect is a good man – I have no indication that he’s not. He may even be as devout as anyone out there listening in his faith and his belief. I don’t know; I never asked him. I can’t conclude. What I can conclude and what I can tell you, which you probably already know, is that he was incapable of defending his own law that he asked for and that the legislature passed. He couldn’t defend it. Other members of the legislature, I didn’t see one of them that had a clue as to how to defend this. [/private]
The reason that they can’t defend it is because they’re discussing it in the secular realm. They’re discussing it in a manner that is divorced from ultimate authority. Ultimate moral authority comes from Almighty God. It’s not a product of Thomas Jefferson. It’s not a product of the United States. It’s not a product of the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. Ultimately it comes from God. I didn’t establish it, you didn’t establish it, He did, long, long ago. It is the rejection of His authority that’s at issue here. That’s the ultimate cause.
You can prattle about and present all the rhetorical arguments that you want, that this can be solved [mocking] “If we just got back to the Constitution, this could be solved.” No, it couldn’t be, because the error is not a constitutional error. There are constitutional errors, but that’s not the ultimate cause.
