Background

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – “Again, if you haven’t wrapped your mind around the fact, tell your Tea Party, your Trumpista, flag-waving friends, this is a deceitful act.  It is filled with all the garbage that Obamacare was filled with, it’s just filled with garbage that came from Republicans.  They’re going to have their fingerprints all over this if this monstrosity passes.” Check out today’s transcript for the rest….

Mike:  I’d like to share something with you.  By the way, Louie Gohmert is on:

[start audio file]

Rep. Gohmert: . . . federal government to Health and Human Services under our bill, and they don’t have an answer for, “What about when it’s a Democrat in charge and not a Republican?” Then we were told it’s based on a false premise. They lied to the president. They misrepresent to us. We were told for weeks now that we have to thread the needle ‘cause we can’t know what the parliamentarian in the Senate is going to do until we actually pass the bill. Mike Lee went to the parliamentarian this week. The parliamentarian said, “Sure. Nobody’s asked me. I’ll tell you what I think.” But the parliamentarian doesn’t even get to rule. It’s either Mike Pence or Mitch McConnell or whoever McConnell appoints, and they will make the decision. The thing is, it does survive the Byrd Rule. It does major, affect the budget in a major way. Our people are hurting. It’s just hard to believe that after all this time our answer is more government in the short term but eventually it goes away. Just trust us and we are going to spend more federal money, but eventually it’ll be better. This is – it’s not what any of us promised we would do. It’s built on a false premise, that the parliamentarian was not going to allow what we promised we would do.

Male: We’ve got a lot of pictures this morning because the Rules Committee meeting right now going over this . . .

Mike:  That’s my friend, Congressman Louie Gohmert.  He does remain a friend.  You just heard it, folks, the deceit.  They freaking lied.  Ryan et al. lied.  They said, [mocking] “Mitter Gohmert, please!  We know what we’re doing.  The parliamentarian is going to make the decision, you idiot, you bumpkin from Texas.  Go back to your hole.”  Did you notice the part about, when Louie said: We’re going to expand the federal government in the short run, but, don’t worry, we’re going to be here forever.  Then we get to decide in the future.  Then the cuts will come.  They don’t ever come.  It’s a false premise.

Again, if you haven’t wrapped your mind around the fact, tell your Tea Party, your Trumpista, flag-waving friends, this is a deceitful act.  It is filled with all the garbage that Obamacare was filled with, it’s just filled with garbage that came from Republicans.  They’re going to have their fingerprints all over this if this monstrosity passes.  Just listening to Louie, Congressman Gohmert, leaves me to believe they don’t have the votes.  Ryan does not have the votes.

Imagine this scenario.  It doesn’t end well for Republicans either way.  Smaller is still more beautiful.  They bring Trump’s bill up and they can’t even get it out of the House, it fails embarrassingly, humiliatingly.  They can’t even get it out of the House.  That means that the Senate version is null and void because it doesn’t matter.  They can pass the Senate version if they want and send it back to the House, but if it has the same crap in it, it’s not going to pass.  That’s one scenario.

Second scenario, other than a select few members of Congress – I know that Congressman Gohmert is not going to vote for that thing.  I know him well enough to know he’s not going to pull the trigger.  Thomas Massie isn’t going to vote for it.  Justin Amash is not going to vote for it.  Walter Jones is not going to vote for it.  There’s a handful of them that aren’t going to vote for it.  Right now what’s going on is – do you ever watch the TV show House of Cards?  Right now Frank Underwood is – they’re having meetings and they’re bringing guys in there and threatening them.  I remember an epoch, a sad, horrific epoch in Republican Party history.  The same thing happened back in the first year of the Bush presidency when Tom DeLay was the majority whip.  It was somebody’s cockamamie idea that Medicare wasn’t big enough.  We need to expand it.  We need to make the welfare state for geezers bigger.

Christopher:  He had probably the greatest last name to work in government.

Mike:  DeLay.  The expansion of Medicare was Medicare Part D.  I ask you a question.  Is it law today?  Yes, it is.  How’d that get there?  Republicans put it in there.  Here’s what happened.  Let me take you back.  They didn’t have the votes to pass it.  Some members went: That’s not conservative.  We can’t vote for that.  They had 213 or 212 votes.  I don’t remember the total.  It was in 2001.  It was before 9/11, I believe.  What did they do?  They didn’t bring it to the floor because they were counting votes.  They didn’t have the votes.  What did they do?  They brought the members in there.  DeLay brought members in there and threatened them.  I don’t know what he threatened them with, but basically told them: You will vote for this, or you’ll never sit on another committee again.  Your district will be deprived.  I will personally withhold funds for sidewalks from your district.  Did Medicare Part D expansion pass?  Yes, it did.  Did it pass the Senate?  Yes, it did.  It might not have been in 2001 because they needed a Republican Senate to do this.  It would have been in 2002 or 2003.  What happened?  The bill passed both houses, got to a joint resolution, passed concurrent versions of the bill, went back to both houses, they both voted on it again, sent it to President Bush, and he signed it.

Don’t think that right now your Republican heroes aren’t being browbeaten if not outright threatened by Steve Scalise.  For those of you who don’t know, Steve Scalise is my member of Congress.  Scalise is my congressman.  He’s the majority whip.  What’s he doing right now?  He’s doing what DeLay did.  Scalise is also a, I’m going to give this to you, “conservative.”  Ladies and gentlemen, this is nothing short of salacious.  Louie just spilled the beans.  The bill is awful.  It grows government.  Some people think, [mocking] “Mitter Church, please.  What does it matter anymore?”  It does matter because commitments are being made.  If you’re making commitments, then who ultimately has to pay?  My daughters.  Mark, your kids.  My stepson is stuck with it.  They have to pay for it.  They didn’t do anything.  They didn’t ask for it.  They don’t want it.  They’ve got to pay for it.

What are we doing?  This is madness.  This is absolute madness.  No more talking about this stuff.  Make the small communities.  Start making them.  Like this little radio community here, the little radio channel that could, start doing it.  Enough, folks.  The revolt has to happen.  The rebellion has got to be on.  Separation from these people by any means we have at our disposal.  Bear in mind, though, if you don’t correct the order, none of it’s going to matter, and this, too, will end in tears.
