This Day In Founders History – July 26

On this day in 1775, the U.S. Postal System was established by the Second Continental Congress.  Founding father Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General.

In 1778 on this day, New York became the 11th state to ratify the Constitution, with a vote of 30 yea and 27 nay.

In 1790, the House of Representatives passes the Assumption Bill, part of Hamilton’s economic reforms.

And one notable birthday on this day in history in 1739, that of George Clinton. Clinton served as the fourth Vice President of the United States, serving for five years as Thomas Jefferson’s VP and three years as VP to James Madison.
