Channeling Oprah to Stop Beyonce, “Something Needs to be done about her lyrics, Like now!”

Mandeville, LA  –  Exactly 6 years ago today, Barrack Obama, publicly spoke out against his former pastor of 20 years, Jeremiah Wright. Wright had been embroiled in a simmering controversy over recorded sermons where he thundered “no no no, not God Bless America; God bleeeeeep America!”

In a press conference discussing the issue Wright doubled down on his vitriol, condemning the U.S  government for inventing the HIV virus as means of genocide against minorities. In his “denouncement” of Wright, Obama said “And what I think particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing.”

Fast forward to the here and now and Obama is denouncing L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling for his “racist remarks” made privately to his girlfriend. The resulting chaos has now created a united media front to oust Sterling from the NBA. The latest to join the fray is 2008 Obama endorser Oprah Winfrey, telling CBS that Sterling had a “plantation mentality in the 21st century” and that “[s]omething has to be done…like, now,” about it. I take that to mean that friends of Sterling, who attend his parties, fly his personal jet or share his bed should stop doing so, taking their cues from Oprah.

You see, Winfrey also attended Wright’s church until her popularity on TV began to rise. Then, according to sources quoted in a Newsweek story, Winfrey bailed on Wright because “[s]he’s always been aware that her audience is very mainstream, and doing anything to offend them just wouldn’t be smart.” In other words, Wright’s repugnant use of the pulpit to cry for violence against other Americans didn’t rise to the Oprah threshold of “[s]omething has to be done [about it]…like, now.”

Too bad, because the public, exile of successful people with politically incorrect views like Brendan Eich and now Donald Sterling is setting a dangerous precipe from which many will fall, but not all that should. For example, If I find the all too public lyricism of Jay Z and Beyonce’ lewd and offensive to my Christian faith, where is my recourse and media feeding frenzy to bring about their economic exile?

Regardless, those who are rallying the torches and pitchforks for Sterling, would be better served pulling a silent Oprah than the very loud, NBA player demands of exile.
