I Pledge Allegiance To No Flag
2011 Mike Church
Exclusive, Audio & Transcript – Hey folks its Mike Church with todays Church Doctrine.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America begins the perfunctory recitation of our mighty federal governments supremacy. On the backs of our paper and zinc coated plastic excuse for money we find in God we trust. Both of these mottos are viewed by most as hallowed symbols of our freedom and goodness but theres a small problem with this sentiment: it isnt historically accurate and is unconstitutional too.

The Pledge got its start when Yankee Armies occupying the defeated Southern States required citizens to recite an oath to the Northern Federal Government. In the beginning this ceremony included extending ones right arm out and upward, then Hitler came along and made that unpopular. By the time the 1950s came around and we turned our dollars, military and attention to the Communist threat it was determined that they, the Commies, were Godless and bad and therefore we, the Americans, were pro-God and good so we should express this on our money and pledges.

This action should have sent the ACLU doing cartwheels down Pennsylvania Avenue. There is no authority whatsoever in the Federal Constitution to Establish a GOD as THE being we trust and pledge to and we have this on good authority: James Madison. Madison was the author of the famous Establishment clause of the 1st Amendment and Madison believed that any official expression of Religion was prohibited by it.  The reason this comes up now is because Congress is so desperate for a win and it knows the Tea Party folks do not actually know their Constitutions history so this is red meat for the troops, a resolution affirming In God We Trust. It is telling that of the 9 no votes on the resolution, Constructionist Justin Amash and Ron Paul were among  the no votes.

But since the 1820s, there is no republic for which it stands and it certainly cannot be under God, so maybe we should just try, limited government under a written Constitution and see if we can get 435 pledges to that?
