Congress – Pushing The Drug Of Politics Onto Everything

todayApril 23, 2013 12

Background

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – You see, folks, we’re political animals.  Everything that happened generates a political response.  This is the crux of Buchanan’s argument that I wanted to bring up today.  There is nothing that can happen that’s newsworthy that does not generate a political response, meaning the urge by Chuck Schumers of the world, the urge by Peter Kings and Lindsey Grahams of the world to jump in and legislate it to fix it and make it all go away.  Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mike:  Patrick J. Buchanan wonders out loud whether or not the Tsarnaev brothers failed.  I forgot to ask for this during the timeout, but do you happen to have in the audio clips of the last four or five days President Obama something to the effect of, [mocking Obama] “Whatever they thought that they could ultimately achieve,” speaking of the Tsarnaev brothers, the bombers, “they’ve already failed.  They failed because the people of Boston refused to be intimidated.  They failed because as Americans we refuse to be terrorized.”  That’s what Buchanan starts his piece of with.

Bostonians did react splendidly. From first responders to folks who gave blood, from hospital staffs to the FBI, ATF and state troopers, from the Boston and Watertown cops to the hostage rescue team that talked Dzhokhar Tsarnaev out of that boat.

But did the Brothers Tsarnaev really fail—as terrorists?

On Sunday’s talk shows, a sub-theme was that this had been the “most successful terrorist attack since 9/11.”

For consider what these brothers accomplished.

By brazenly exploding two bombs right at the finish line of the marathon, with TV cameras all around, they killed three and injured, wounded and maimed 178 people for all the world to see.

article-v-pamphlet-adWithin hours, their atrocity had riveted the attention of the nation. Cable channels went wall to wall, as did major networks.

Mike:  Pat, in all fairness, cable channels go wall to wall over the most trivial of circumstances.  If the brothers had not bombed the Boston Marathon, we probably would have been wall to wall on — that’s a good point.  What happened to the second female trial of the century that was going on before Boston became the big issue?  Do you know what trial I’m talking about?  Jodi?

AG:  Arias.

Mike:  Arias, yes.  Did they conclude?  Is it over?  Did they reach a verdict?  Do you know?

AG:  Still currently ongoing.

Mike:  Is Nancy Grace back on the trail?  Do we have wall-to-wall coverage of Jodi Arias again?

AG:  Yeah, it’s all HLN is covering, and they’ve been getting monster ratings doing it.

Mike:  Did HLN stop, though, for Boston?

AG:  I’m not sure.  I couldn’t actually tell you what channel that is, what number it is on my TV.  I’m not checked in with any of their coverage, but I see the ratings and they’re doing monster there.  I would assume they kept with it.  I think the defense has rest but I’m not positive.  It might be with the jury right now.

Mike:  I must confess that I have no knowledge of it whatsoever, and I have not seen an update on CNN.  I have not seen an update on Fox News either.  Back to Buchanan:

By the evening of the attack, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and President Obama had gone live to reassure us they would be apprehended and justice done.

Day two, Obama appeared again as the greatest manhunt in U.S. history was underway. On day four, the FBI released photos, imploring citizens to come forward and identify the men in the white and black caps.

That evening, the brothers murdered an MIT police officer…

On Friday morning, Gov. Patrick went before the cameras to tell a stunned nation he was imposing a lockdown on all of Boston and half a dozen neighboring communities. Red Sox and Bruins games were canceled.

A million people in and around the city of Paul Revere, of the Lexington and Concord patriots, of Bunker Hill, locked their doors and hid inside because a lone armed teenager with pipe bombs was on the loose.

Boston, said the New York Times, was a “ghost town.”

“The scene was extraordinary. The hub of the universe, as Boston’s popular nickname would have it, was on lockdown from first light until near dark Friday. A massive dragnet for one man had brought a major U.S. city to an absolute standstill.

Mike:  That is the doing of the un-imaginary souls that run the governments of the City of Boston, the State of Massachusetts, and you would think by proxy, at least at some level, the federal government, because the Feds had to agree to this because the Feds run everything.  They can’t just shut down a major American city without getting Congress or without getting the executive, President Obama, to sign off on it.

Saturday, all six newspapers this writer receives led with the capture of Dzhokhar. “Frenzied Hunt Paralyzes Boston,” ran the Times banner.

TV and print media are still consumed with the brothers, their motives, their travel history, their Chechen background, their Islamic beliefs. And Washington is in a ferocious debate over whether Dzhokhar should be interrogated at length or read his Miranda rights.

Each side of the gun control and immigration debates claims the marathon massacre and its aftermath validates their position.

Mike:  You see, folks, we’re political animals. Legislators today, in other words, basically are drug manufacturers.  You have something that you don’t want to deal with any longer?  Fine, turn it over to the politicians.  They’ll write laws.  They’ll empower all manner of bureaus and agencies and bureaucrats and agents.  They’ll go out there and swam the countryside.  The shut the illegal, illicit activity down.  Before you know it, bada bing, bada bam, pow, you’ve forgotten all about it, fat and happy again, and let’s move onto the next crisis.

They’re drug dealers.  They sit out there as vultures waiting for prey.  They’re circling around, hovering above us right now waiting for the next human tragedy to come along so that they can swoop in and clean the carcass up.  That’s what these people do.  That’s what they are.  They feed off the living.  They eat out our sustenance, as Jefferson said.  Swarms of them are dispatched hither and yon, as Patrick Henry told us.  They do it without regard to the public’s sentiments.  In fact, as long as the politicians are willing to get out there and say that things ought to be done, it seems to me that the sheeple are more than willing to say you ought to do that.  See: gun control.  See: immigration reform.  We’ve got to have that now, too.  We’ve got Chechens in here, all 300 of them.  [mocking] “Someone’s gotta do something about these damn Chechens that are in here.”  Andrew, did you know that there are less than 1,000 Chechens in the United States?

AG:  I was unaware, no.

Mike:  That’s the number that I saw.  Where did I see that?  I’ve read so much in the last week about this, I can’t recall where I read that.  I want to say that it was in a New York Times or Washington Post story, that the amount of Chechen immigrants here was less than 1,000.  There aren’t a lot of them here, yet we’re told to fear the Chechens.  They’re coming to get you.
