Michael Meehan on November 17, 2012 We find ourselves at this juncture, where active talk of secession is occurring again, because politicians, mostly under the label of “progressive” or “liberal” have been trying to legislate “fairness” since the late 19th century. Those like William Jennings Bryan, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and Barack Obama have attempted to interpose government in between the people and the consequences they suffer as a result of natural law. Shielding people from the consequences of their actions….bailing them out when they’ve borrowed more than they can pay, propping up businesses when they have failed, all violate the actions of natural law, and simply encourage more bad decision making, poor choices in life, and failures both economically, and morally. It’s been viewed as “not fair” to have to take charity from a Church that insists that you hew to it’s basic beliefs. It is “not fair” to have to live in poverty when you’ve squandered all that you have. It isn’t fair that you don’t get a trophy because you are not capable of winning the race. All of these “unfair” things teach us something, they signal us that we are expending our energies in the wrong way, and signal us that we need to be more moral, more frugal, or pursue other endeavors besides participating in the race that we’ll fail to win. Eliminating and/or masking these signals pushes us to continue to expend effort in non-productive ways, and reduces the wealth and productivity of society as a whole. Secession gives us an opportunity to forge a society that allows these signals to flourish and enable each individual to attain their highest and best, even if failures occur along the way. Judy Avery on November 17, 2012 Shawn, Yes, the NC Constitution says this: Sec. 4. Secession prohibited. This State shall ever remain a member of the American Union; the people thereof are part of the American nation; there is no right on the part of this State to secede; and all attempts, from whatever source or upon whatever pretext, to dissolve this Union or to sever this Nation, shall be resisted with the whole power of the State. Mike, wouldn’t this mean that our State Constitution would have to be amended before we could secceed? Log in to Reply
aspata on November 14, 2012 http://dailycaller.com/2012/11/14/white-house-secede-petitions-reach-660000-signatures-50-state-participation/ I personally signed the Texas petition, on the White House site, not because I think the fraud-in-chief is going to take it seriously, but because I’m emboldened to let [this] administration know who I am, and that I’m pissed enough as a Patriot to go straight to their face and tell them. I believe this is foretelling of the battle that is brewing, between an un-Constitutional federal government, their constituents, and [actual] Patriots of this God blessed nation. I think the intent of the people who signed the petition [at] the White House site, was to make a point. Truth be said, it’s quite clear that there are enough people in this nation who are fed up with the gross abuse of the Constitution, to the point where [we are serious] about action. Just my 2 cents. Dallon on November 12, 2012 These petitions would best be served on the states legislature or on the group leaders, and not Washington. If they wish to secede as a stare, thn state leadership should be petitioned. We run the risk, here, that was warned against by Thomas Paine, that being a person taking control of a mob. Mr Paine was calling for a convention to have a government ready to relavent the one we were leaving. He foresaw the leadership vaccuum. Citizens who decare their independants risk that vaccuum. The question is this, can your state or group actually stand alone? Would you become a North Korea inside the America? Wyoming, my country, has large energy resources, but we would absoutly require agreements if reciprocity with the USA government, or our surrounding states, and all the immigration issues, commerce issues… Secession is a great idea, but it would require more than just a declaration. After al, they may actually let you do it. Then who will take care of grandma? Log in to Reply
smeffen on November 12, 2012 Fantastic! So, I was sitting here this early evening watching my local TV news, WRAL in Raleigh, NC, when I was taken aback shortly after 5:30pm est they aired a short 2 minute segment on the news about the relatively large number of petitions filed with the WhiteHouse.gov site asking for independence from this union. One of those states with a petition is of course North Carolina, so they went out and asked the gentlemen who started the one here in NC the typical questions of “why” and whatnot……they also brought on the opposing point of view from our states attorney general, of course he said it is a waste of time to even bring it up and try since it is illegal, etc, etc. Not too surprisingly the broadcast team and reporter seemed to agree with this opinion or interpretation as “fact”, citing that in 1869 the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to secede and that also, under the North Carolina constitution, secession is “illegal”. First and foremost, WOW! I am happy that this idea is actually being brought up and “discussed”, no matter how dismissively, on major news broadcasts. Nice step forward. Proof positive that there is in fact a little whisper to breeze of change starting to flow. Secondly, I now have to expedite and perform my due diligence now and scour the North Carolina state constitution to find where this supposed illegality is mentioned. Third, now to figure out how exactly going about trying to explain to the dismissive, perpetual union loving throngs that the supreme court overstepped its authority and that secession is “legal”. I tell them that it is a human right and since when can “free” people not exercise their god given liberty and be free? As I am sure you know, this is often not enough. They want facts, proof and evidence to be placed in front of their face saying it not illegal. I guess by starting to read some Kirkpatric Sale again and practicing my politicing! I wanted to share this little nugget of hope with you all. I got a little excited when it aired and it made me smile. Shawn Rocky Mount, NC Log in to Reply
