Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – I also think that if you had that kind of upbringing and you had that kind of commitment to and reliance on a moral upbringing like you’re describing, formalities, manners, decency, respect and all the things that go along with it, you probably would not have — first of all, you’d have a less bellicose foreign policy so you wouldn’t need as large a standing army or even have a standing army like we have. Mike: Raquel is in Virginia next on The Mike Church Show. How you doing?
Caller Raquel: I’m doing well. How are you?
Mike: I’m well, madam, thank you.
Caller Raquel: I was in the military for 17 years. I was a UVA coordinator, which is a Unit Victim Advocate. You would be surprised how many females come forward that they have been sexually assaulted. Because of the way the program is written, if they choose not to say anything, nothing it processed. I myself, being in the military, I know for a fact that had I went along with what everybody else was doing, I would have probably been promoted earlier than I was. Because I stood my ground, my promotion was held for three years. I even got bad reviews, even though I was going above and beyond my male counterparts. The reason why this is like this is because our generation has no respect for each other anymore.
When I first went into the military, I was the only female in a platoon of 30 men. At that time, they did what you say, they sheltered their females. They protected me against all the other males that were trying to date me at the time. They also taught me if you want to survive in this male army, you need to stand out from the beginning. When you come in the military, you’re either a bitch or you’re a whore. You need to decide what you need to do. I decided for the ultimate. That’s exactly what I did as a leader. When I got females that were fresh out of training, I told them the same thing: You have to decide. You have to stand up for yourself regardless of what happens and regardless of who’s telling you what to do. The right thing always prevails. I’m here to tell you it does happen.
Mike: I didn’t mean to assert that it wasn’t happening. My question was why. Why are the numbers going up so precipitously?
Caller Raquel: You see all these young people that do all these things, raping females, taking pictures of them and putting them on the internet. That same generation is now going into the military. Because they were never taught respect for women or and the women are not taught respect for themselves, they think they can do whatever they want. That’s one of the problems. Also, males are not taught to respect women and to shelter them and protect them. That’s why it’s growing, because the same generation that are doing the things that we see that we are so appalled in the civilian world are going into the military. On the same token, it’s the culture of the unit. If the unit does not do anything about it and continues the same behavior, it will continue on leadership after leadership after leadership.
Mike: I don’t disagree with that. I also think that if you had that kind of upbringing and you had that kind of commitment to and reliance on a moral upbringing like you’re describing, formalities, manners, decency, respect and all the things that go along with it, you probably would not have — first of all, you’d have a less bellicose foreign policy so you wouldn’t need as large a standing army or even have a standing army like we have. Second of all, you wouldn’t then have the pressing need for this earthly version of equality that is shoved down our throats and we’re told is the cause for our living. We live not to live; we live to make sure everyone is equal while they’re living. It is quite a suicidal or I’d say unachievable goal, the one that we have set out for ourselves. We’re Americans and Jefferson said we’re all created equal, so that’s what we’ve got to do for all our natural-born existence here. It is a confluence of factors, I would say. I appreciate your call. Thank you very much for your candor.
Caller Raquel: Thank you for letting me voice my opinion. I’m sorry for the profanity.
Mike: I didn’t even hear it. I must have been so taken with what you were saying. I was making notes as you were speaking. I must have missed it. Don’t apologize. Believe me, if I hear profanity on this show, I’m the first one to say: Don’t say that again; please watch your language. I didn’t hear it, Raquel, so don’t sweat it.
Caller Raquel: Thank you for letting me voice my opinion and have a great day.
Mike: You, too. But don’t do it again, don’t do it again.
