Mandeville, LA – Church Doctrine – “Happy Thanksgiving!” goes the oft cited phrase and indeed this year there will be plenty to give thanks for. Despite the stubborn rate of unemployment, the growing sea of red ink our government is swimming in and a corrupt culture from Baton Rouge to music award stages starring half naked hipsters simulating coitus, still we give thanks.

We give thanks that we have strong neighborhoods and neighbors and even stronger families. These are the support groups most of us turn to because they seldom let us down and when they do, there is no act of Congress needed to heal the divide. No assistance with the healthcare.gov site, nope you will bury most of those hatchets and share some wine, turkey and LSU vs Arkansas.

Anthology_Book_Cover_FEATUREDWe give thanks that the Ruling Elites from both political parties have not succeeded in burning all our founding documents and washing the life and deeds of our Forefathers from our collective memories. That this community is blessed with men like Steve Gleason who refuse to let the pains of life cancel out the joy of living.

We give thanks that the fire of Liberty burns so hotly in some young men’s souls that they will swear an oath to protect and defend our constitutions. We give even more thanks to the growing class of people who see the tragedy that our never ending wars have become.

This Thanksgiving, lets remember that President Washington asked that the first Thanksgiving, be recognized on 26 November 1789, calling it  “A day of publick Thanksgiving and Prayer”. The first Thanksgiving in New Orleans was observed in 1805 by a group of Protestants who knelt on the floor of the Cabildo’s chamber hall. There were said to have been 30-40 folks there who may have heard then governor W C C Claiborne lead them in prayer.

So from Robert E. Lee, to Tchoupatoulous.  From Bridge City to Algiers. From the 17th Street Canal to Apple Street in Norco. From Madisonville & Bedico to the Rigolletts Bridge. Happy Thanksgiving New Awlins’ !
