Is This The [r]epublican [m]oment We’ve Been Waiting For? A REVOLT at the RNC!?

Tampa, FL – The GOP is getting a bit full of themselves and with the Romney campaign are trying to pass rule changes to delegate selection that eerily do to the GOP state parties and activists what the 17th Amendment (& war of Northern agression) did to the States themselves: transfer selection process to the GOP Leviathan to insure no debate and ‘fall in line” conformity. This just 1 day after Ron Paul said goodbye to his legions of followers here in Tampa, many who are IN those state delegations. Of course, this is exactly what I have been warning about for years with the party for the sake of party infatuation. Please read John Taylor of Caroline’s prophetic warning of what parties seeking the Presidency would do to liberty and civil government.

UPDATE III: The RNC claims they have reacehd a deal with the aggrieved delagations. In an email statement just released, please note the Ron Paul Rule (in bold) that basically prevents a caucus delegate from voting for the ultimate caucus winner in favor of the beauty pageant primary winner. Isn’t it amazing how in every step of our process, [r]epublicanism is discouraged?

Subject: Resolution of Controversy regarding Rule 15/16

To the Members of the Republican National Committee and the Convention Committee on Rules:
The undersigned are very pleased to announce that the leadership of the Republican National Committee and the Romney for President campaign has heard the concerns of the conservative grassroots voices in our party and has crafted an amendment to the Rules adopted on Friday to address these concerns. At the same time, the revised language closes a loophole in our party rules, which previously failed to include a penalty for delegates who break their promise to vote for a particular Presidential candidate as required by state law or state party rules.
We are pleased that our party has come together to fashion this compromise. This will allow Republicans of all stripes to come to the Convention united and focused on defeating Barack Obama in November.
The Convention is our party’s opportunity to energize our supporters and activists. It would be unfortunate to squander the opportunity fighting an internal battle which we have now been able to successfully resolve and which will accomplish the goals of all parties involved.

The resolution that we have reached is straightforward. It simply prevents a bound delegate from nominating or casting a vote for a different presidential candidate than the one to whom the delegate was legally bound by state law or state party rule.

Instead, under this new provision, a delegate who attempts to violate his binding pledge is deemed to have resigned and the Secretary of the Convention will record the improper vote as it should have been cast based on state law or party rule.

It leaves the actual selection of delegates completely to state parties under state law and state party rules.

We are pleased that we were able to reach an acceptable resolution and urge the members of the Convention Rules Committee to adopt the revised Rule tomorrow to be included in their report to the Convention.

UPDATE I: The revolt is spreading through the Tea Party ranks like steroids at a Tour de France:

Shenanigans are happening at the Republican National Convention, and we need your help to protect your state’s delegates, and to protect the credibility of the nomination process.
If the RNC can eliminate delegates and pick their own, then what’s the point of elections? These delegates were legitimately elected and they should be seated. Please do not let the process become corrupt.

Please call for a roll call vote on all Rules-related votes.

This is not about preferring one candidate over another, it is about protecting each state’s right to choose how it selects and governs its own delegates. We need you to speak up when this issue surfaces, which may be as early as Tuesday.
A proposed rule change would allow the Presidential nominee to “disavow” duly elected delegates and force the states to hold new elections to replace any delegate or alternate deemed unacceptable by the Nominee. They are changing the rules now without having new elections, but they also want to permanently change the rules going forward.

This would not only undermine the will of the electorate and give the presumptive nominee enormous power to block delegates with whom he or she disagrees, it would impose a financial burden on the state to hold new elections to replace the disavowed delegates. States would have to write rules to govern this newly imposed burden.

This would take power away from the state parties and put the Nominee in charge of determining your state’s delegates. Some are calling this the largest power grab in Republican Party history. I urge you to stop this.
There is a Minority Report being circulated that would stop this change. We need you to support this and ask for a roll-call vote on ALL RULES-RELATED ISSUES.

Texans bristle at proposed change in selecting delegates

Monday, August 27, 2012, 11:45 AM – TAMPA, Fla. — Republican convention-goers have a light first day today thanks to an earlier threat from Hurricane Isaac that changed the schedule. As the storm took a track away from this Gulf coast town, one issue was causing concern among the Texas delegation.

It sounds pretty technical, but the national party leaders are trying to change a convention rule that would alter that way delegates are chosen. If approved in the coming days, the change would allow the presumptive presidential nominee to have the final say over each state’s delegates, said Steve Munisteri, chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.

The Texas delegation is livid. At a morning meeting of Texas delegates, Munisteri and a boisterous crowd discussed how the proposed change would affect the way Texans might send delegates to future conventions.

We will be “told how to select our delegates,” Munisteri said.

Texas prides itself on being a state party whose members choose who will go the national convention. It’s a grassroots — versus top-town — approach, said James Dickey, an at-large alternate from Bee Cave.

Dickey said the result of the change, if it is approved, could be drastic.

“It would dampen enthusiasm a lot,” Dickey said. “It would dampen excitement about running to be a delegate.”

With the support of Texas’ delegates, Munisteri said he’s ready to take the fight to the floor of the convention.

In a letter to the national rules committee, the Texas delegation said: “The only way a floor fight can be avoided is if the rule is stricken.”
