Mike:  Abortion, and even contraception, even in the prevention of pregnancy, is verboten in church teaching.  This goes all the way back prior – this is taken directly from the gospels, directly from the Old Testament, and then passed on traditionally.  St. Augustine even writes about the sin – this is in the 4th century – the sin of abortion.  Origin, 2nd-and-a-half century writes, we have extant writing, meaning they exist, against abortion.  This is constant, consistent teaching.  They didn’t have the science we did to know the stages of development.  Again, Aquinas had no scientific knowledge of what he was writing about, so in that particular instance we can say that Aquinas was wrong, one of the very rare instances.  I’m not even sure the gravity of his error.  Again, it’s more of a scientific thing than a theological thing.

It’s clear, throughout the history of the Church, that abortion is wrong.  You counsel against it.  You don’t permit it.  You make it illegal.  You put orphanages up.  I told the story about Hermannus Contractus, Herman the Lame, who was left at the door of a monastery.  He could have been aborted.  In Hillary’s world, he would have been aborted.  If the mother would have been informed, [mocking] “Your baby’s going to come out not looking so pretty,” go ahead and kill it.  My point is, if you’re a cardinal – you don’t even have to be a cardinal.  For Heaven’s sake, if you’re laity, you may not counsel, you may not perform, you may not engage in abortion and contraception of any kind.  I’m not making this stuff up, folks.  It’s well known.

As I told Mark, if Cardinal Dolan wanted to strike a blow for life and against abortion, as is his duty, he would have disinvited Mrs. Clinton.  Again, can you imagine Archbishop Fulton Sheen inviting Margaret Sanger to a fundraising dinner?  Cotton that thought.  This is how far gone some parts of the American Catholic Church are.  When we talk about we’ve got to get back to traditions and all that, traditions?  To heck with traditions.  We can’t even get the easy stuff right.  Sixty-one percent of American Catholic women are about to go vote for Mrs. Clinton, 61 percent.  This is unconscionable.  It’s because of things like occurred last night at that dinner in New York.

I’d also like to share with you, I found this.  I was searching for this to see if I was the only one who would be talking about it, and, of course, I am.  I go to the allegedly-Catholic drudge report, some of you will be familiar with, called CruxNow.com.  Here’s what you will find on the front page of CruxNow.com.  “Taking the Catholic Pulse” is the subtitle of their site.  I’m not scandalizing these people; they published this.  I’m simply relaying it to you.  Christopher White writing, “Al Smith dinner reflects Church’s ability to bring people together.”  Oh, that’s great.  Oh, the Church can bring baby killers together.  What a wonderful thing.  It didn’t admonish the baby killer.  It didn’t admonish the late partial-birth abortion advocate, the Planned Parenthood advocate.  No, it just brought it in to have a cocktail for a fundraiser.  What is going on here?  I must have awakened in cuckoo land today.  Again, how are we going to make a Christian America out of this?  This is just disturbing, folks, it’s disturbing.

Let’s go to the telephones.  This is Jack in New York City.

Caller Jack:  Morning, Mike.

Mike:  Hey, Jack.  How are you?

Caller Jack:  Spectacular.  I was trusted [ph] to make this phone call because you’re speaking of Cardinal Dolan and I knew the predecessor of his, which was Cardinal Egan.  I’ve had occasion to sit with these people and eat with them.  They were some of the most wonderful, hospitable, gracious individuals you will ever meet, publically.  Privately, I can tell you, they replace the Almighty God with the almighty dollar.  I guarantee it.  I will stake my soul on it.  That’s where I live, Mike.  I live in a city where the almighty dollar has precedent over the Almighty God.  It’s that simple in every aspect of this life and this city of New York.

Mike:  Does my analogy make sense that – can you imagine Archbishop Fulton Sheen inviting Margaret Sanger to a potluck dinner to raise money for Annie’s Attic, an orphanage on Broadway and 48th?

Caller Jack:  Yes, I can actually see Cardinal Sheen doing that, probably to perform an exorcism.  It’s really that simple.  Again, we’re making light of it, but the truth is, these people really are demonic.  You say some aspects of the Catholic [unintelligible], that there are parts of the Catholic Church.  Mike, I think it’s more than part.  I think we’re verging on the 90 percentile of this thing being a total wash.  The scripture is no longer read or looked upon as do as I say, not as I do.  That’s from the upper echelon of the Catholic Church, all the way down to the lead deacon, as far as I can see.  If I’m wrong, please chime in and let me know.  I’ve seen it and I live it here.

Mike:  There’s a story yesterday at OnePeterFive.com.  The gist of the story is – I can’t remember who wrote it, and I didn’t get a chance to read it in its entirety.  The gist of the story is the diabolical forces inside the Vatican now have heard your complaint, my complaint, the complaint of Mike Mott and Chris Ferrara, the complaint of Rorate Caeli and almost every other faithful to the core, to the Church and Her teaching, that they heard our roar and they’re now starting to swing back.

Caller Jack:  I doubt it.  I doubt it.  The almighty dollar definitely has replaced Almighty God.  They know it, I know it, and you know it.  There’s no chance on God’s green earth that that’s ever going to happen.  They’ll tell you they’re doing it.  They’ll make all kinds of overt gestures: Yes, we’re changing because we want to go back to God.  In the meantime, their pockets are loaded.  They’re going to take every dime that we can give them, that they can get from us, through the government, through the Margaret Sangers of America and the rest of the world, and they could care less about their laity.  They couldn’t care one iota, Michael.

Mike:  Steve Skojec writes this, “As Papal Criticism Mounts, Vatican Insiders Fire Back.”  It’s the diabolical forces inside that are firing back.  It’s the bad guys.  It’s the promoters and those that are allowing this to happen.  There are two issues here.  Number one, either the teaching is sacred and is defended by everyone that calls themselves Catholic and then lived and defended by everyone that calls themselves catholic or it’s not.  It’s an either or.  In this instance, there is no gray area.  It’s a yes or no.  I believe in philosophy we call that a preposition.  It has a yes or no – there are two answers to it.  Either you agree, you say yes, or you say no.  We’re at the stage now where significant majorities, I woefully attest, are saying no.

Caller Jack:  Right.  They are saying no.  The problem is, we don’t run the show.  We may think we want to run the show because our numbers are greater than those who are actually in charge.  The problem is, those who are in charge have always run the show.  From Mordor to the Vatican to the 4-H Club, whoever [unintelligible] signs the checks is the guy who’s making policy.  It’s really that simple.  The rest of us are just here to hold the bag.

Mike:  It scandalizes the faithful.  Someone could say, [mocking] “Well, that’s just your opinion.”  No, it’s not my opinion.  [mocking] “How come your Cardinal Dolan doesn’t live like that?  How come this happens?  How come that?”

Caller Jack:  We have an answer for that.  The reason why Cardinal Dolan doesn’t live the life of a saint is because he’s not.  He replaced God with the dollar.  I’ll tell it to his face if I saw him.  Why not?  Somebody has to.  It’s ridiculous.

Mike:  I’ll give you something to chew on, Jack.  Thank you very much for the call, brother.  Good to hear from you.  As Father Wolfe likes to say: God is in charge and he knows what he’s doing.  It’s not all about fallible men, because if it was, logic would not dictate, certainly philosophia perennis would not dictate that we should remain members of the mystical body and the church militant.  It’s obvious that the Holy Ghost still is at work here.  You can’t despair about this, and you can’t say that it’s all the leaders because it’s not all the leaders.  You also can’t say that all is lost because all is not lost.  Again, either you believe that the gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church or you don’t.  It’s as simple as that.  That doesn’t make this any less disturbing, though, is my point.
