N.S. Lyons has the best essay I’ve read yet that explains WHY the truckers protest in Ottawa inspired so much passionate support, here’s a sample:

For our purposes here, let’s call these two classes the Physicals and the Virtuals, respectively.

When considering the causes and character of the current protest, and the response to it, I would say the divide between Physicals and Virtuals is by far the most relevant frame of analysis available. In fact I’d say this is among the most significant divides in all of Western politics today.

Much has rightly been made of the “working class” and their alienation from “the elite.” But this phrasing comes mixed up with associations about material wealth and economic class that aren’t necessarily helpful. Many (though not all) of those who support “populist” politics in opposition to the elite tend to frequently be either fairly solidly middle-class skilled tradesmen, relatively successful small businessmen, or land-holders (e.g. farmers, ranchers, real estate entrepreneurs) who are often actually relatively well-off. It is the character of their work that seems to shape the common identity and values of each side of the class divide more than income.

So too does this difference appear to widen – and perhaps even help explain the root of – the huge and growing gender divide in politics, given the fairly well-established preference (on average) by men to work with “things” (more concrete) and women to work with “people” (more abstract).

In sharp contrast with this pattern of organic relationships was the intellectual ideal of abstract ‘rights’ vested in the human Individual by liberal philosophy …. Diversity is essential for the functioning of society, and diversity necessitates distinctions. The abolition of distinction by birth, vocation and rank did not abolish social gradations; it merely shifted the emphasis from quality of person to quantity of material possessions. In other words, status (and to a large extent function) was transferred from persons to things, more particularly to that thing which, in a free economy, and most readily be converted into other things, namely, money; and money is essentially inorganic. In the economic sense at least, liberalism did not so much liberate man as enthrone money, replacing a possibly degenerate aristocracy by an almost, unlimited plutocracy, and social ties by economic pressures ….

Just as money became the common denominator of the new plutocratic society, so it came also to be regarded as the embodiment of wealth …. Money came to be used increasingly, not only as a measure of value, but as the standard of value. Thence it was but an easy seep to the calculation of all capital in terms of money, so that ‘capitalism’ in modern parlance means, not a system which conserves the sources of real wealth, but a system by which accumulations of money exercise effective control over the means of production and the disposal of the product-in short, money-power.

Malkin is raising funds to support a lawsuit against Airbnb. Lawsuits and uses of the administrative state to gum up its works are one way to impose costs on leftist culture aggressors. Others would include defunding the institutions they control, such as K-12 schools, colleges, and administrative agencies. Still others include turning the deep state on itself by filing complaints and revealing its secrets through investigative reporting, lawsuit discovery, and open records requests.

This is the offensive strategy the right needs to employ in tandem with accelerating their building of parallel institutions to comprise a freedom economy within the bureaucratized economy. But these institutions need defenders if they are to not become just another target for leftist takeover and cancellation. We both need our own replacement institutions and to wage political and cultural war on the institutions that give leftists their overweening power.

People have to get off their couches and realize that there’s nowhere to run and hide. The left is going to come for you and your kids no matter where you live. You can’t hide, you have to fight.
