MrWonderful

Mickeous, did you ever get the lecture playing?

06-09-2015 08:05:43
freeper

On page 17, there should be two lines leading from Totum Reale to the Non-essentiale and the Essentiale columns, right?

06-09-2015 08:05:47
TheKingDude

Sorry about the YouTube crap out

06-09-2015 08:06:47
McdougallDarcy

Freeper: I think we are on page 14

06-09-2015 08:06:51
Brother-Andre Marie

Good catch, Freeper. I believe you are correct. We’ll have to fix that.

McdougallDarcy: He’s covering chapter 4 of the notes, which goes from 14 to 17.

06-09-2015 08:07:56
freeper

I know, I want to give time to answer my question. this is the 4th time I’ve listened to this CD.

06-09-2015 08:08:20
McdougallDarcy

Thank you Brother

06-09-2015 08:08:28

06-09-2015 08:09:07
McdougallDarcy

Freeper: Got it. I didn’t look hard enough

06-09-2015 08:12:10
TheKingDude

We will begin the discussion in just a few moments!

06-09-2015 08:14:20
MrWonderful

Brother are you there?

06-09-2015 08:14:47
Brother-Andre Marie

Yes.

06-09-2015 08:15:18
freeper

Brother Andre Marie, this might be useful for the Latin in the course. What do you think? http://www.catholicapologetics.info/catholicteaching/philosophy/definitions.htm

06-09-2015 08:16:04
TheKingDude

Google, Latin to English works pretty well too

06-09-2015 08:16:22
Brother-Andre Marie

…looking, freeper…

06-09-2015 08:16:42
TheKingDude

Nice little dictionary

06-09-2015 08:17:21
Brother-Andre Marie

Eternity = wholesome, simultaneous, and perfect possession of the interminable life.

That’s Boethius’ definition.

I love it.

This looks like a very valuable tool, freeper!

06-09-2015 08:18:38
freeper

Glad to hear that!

06-09-2015 08:19:42
Brother-Andre Marie

This is pretty much what Brother Francis says… 48. Division = a sentence which separates a thing or a noun into different parts. 49. Definition = the sequence which exposes the nature of a thing or the signification of a term.

I wonder where this was copied from. It’s very good.

06-09-2015 08:21:09
MrWonderful

Can you hear us?

06-09-2015 08:21:23
McdougallDarcy

Yes, Mr. W

06-09-2015 08:21:28
freeper

Got you all, 5×5!

BAM: The link is the only source I saw. Didn’t look further.

Two hours sounds like a full evening, IMHO.

LOST is the word, BAM!

06-09-2015 08:25:37
Jas Wil

These concepts are pretty dense and take a while to unpack

06-09-2015 08:25:38
Paul J Da Costa

Yes I had to listen to the AEIO at least 7 times

06-09-2015 08:26:14
freeper

Aha! Good idea if we start after Logic.

Audio gone-

06-09-2015 08:26:48
McdougallDarcy

I have to listen to each lecture 3 – 6 times and take notes. I’d prefer to go slower. We skipped one of the lectures and I was lost.

06-09-2015 08:27:38
Brother-Andre Marie

Can you hear us now?

06-09-2015 08:27:38
MrWonderful

Freeper can you hear us…

06-09-2015 08:29:21
MousousMickeus

thannk you!

06-09-2015 08:30:56
MrWonderful

Analogize it to vision. Your eyes grasp the physical entity. Your intellect grasps the nature of the thing.

06-09-2015 08:36:42
freeper

Dictionary says “mental object.” (logical suppositions)

06-09-2015 08:38:21
Jas Wil

By “reality” it is meant being physical and temporal?

ah…I understand the metaphyical beyond to be included

ok…that is much more clear Mr. W.

Brother too

06-09-2015 08:41:37
MrWonderful

Great

06-09-2015 08:44:52

06-09-2015 08:59:10

Asimov was president of the Humanist Society

06-09-2015 09:00:12
MousousMickeus

06-09-2015 09:00:41

Good night Brother, Mike, David and All.

06-09-2015 09:00:59

MousousMickeus

couldnt remem nominalism

06-09-2015 09:04:16
Jas Wil

It also seems that “settled” knowledge are those important concepts we should forget for the sake of “progress”

06-09-2015 09:05:21
MrWonderful

Yes, Jas, that is correct. Tradition and past personages are rejected and only new things are good…and “change”…the slogan of a recent election.

06-09-2015 09:06:15
freeper

What is so disappointing is the ease by which we are led astray…

06-09-2015 09:07:00
MousousMickeus

agreed freep

06-09-2015 09:07:35
MrWonderful

Yes, freeper, but this course is an antidote to that process. You will not be led astray after you are emboldened by philosophia perennis.

06-09-2015 09:07:58
freeper

From your lips to God’s ears!

06-09-2015 09:08:43
Jas Wil

it seems that even within Latin “being” or the infinitive “esse” is unique from all other concepts as it is the basis of all others.

06-09-2015 09:09:37
MrWonderful

Yes, jas, and you will see that the verb “to be” is irregular in all languages because of its simplicity and profundity.

06-09-2015 09:10:22
John Whitney

it is also absent in some languages in reverence

06-09-2015 09:10:34
Michael Meives

Excellent conversation tonight, thanks everyone.

06-09-2015 09:10:39
MrWonderful

Interesting…John.

06-09-2015 09:10:51
Brother-Andre Marie

“To be” is also the most irregular word in most languages.

From WIKI: Trappist beer is brewed by Trappist breweries. Eleven monasteries — six in Belgium, two in the Netherlands and one each in Austria, Italy and United States — currently brew beer and sell it as Authentic Trappist Product.
