Thanksgiving for Founders is Incomplete Without Studying What They Studied

Background

Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – When you hear about the omnipotence of the central authority, know that you are sowing the seeds of your own destruction.  You are making it possible by denying that there is a right to self-determination.  You are denying any chance you may have to actually live under that freedom that many of you claim you want to recapture from the founders.  Well, the founders would not have put up with this tyranny.  The founders would have known because history and Western civilization and the great works would have told them that whenever any government becomes destructive of these ends as large as ours has, that tyranny is right around the corner or you are currently experiencing it. Check out the rest in today’s transcript…

Mike:  I was going to delve into this CNN story “Is secession bid more than a cry of rage?” written by Timothy Stanley.  There’s just one part of it that is intriguing, provocative.

[reading]

Legally, secession is impossible, and all attempts to do it have failed. [Mike: You need to specify where they have failed, sir, because they haven’t failed everywhere else on the planet where they have tried.] But it’s not a philosophically unattractive idea. A democratic society works best when it’s rooted in the principle of free association: We all get along with one another because we choose to. Good will is maintained because the individual’s membership in the community is voluntary — were it compulsory, that would breed resentment. But free association only works so long as the individual is free to disassociate when he or she wants. [Mike: You’ve lost the right to disassociate.  You can’t disassociate, not if you’re a business owner.  You have to associate with people that in years or decades or centuries gone by you would not have been compelled to associate with. So the right of free association has been lost, and it doesn’t even matter whose property it’s on.]

As with individuals, so with nations. In the case of the United States, the states are historically there by choice. Although there is no mechanism for secession, [Mike: Sure there is. Write a declaration of independence and say bye.] the generous distribution of powers to the states reflects a spirit of voluntary federation. [Mike: I’d say the prior generous reservation of powers. They weren’t distributed to the states, they were reserved.] Since the end of the Cold War we’ve witnessed the surprising fluidity of supposedly fixed national identities. The Soviet Union broke up, adding 15 new countries to the map. Yugoslavia witnessed terrible wars for national self-determination. Belgium is on the permanent brink of fracture. And my native Great Britain is getting ready for a historic vote on the independence of Scotland. The complexities of Scottish independence illustrate that secession doesn’t have to mean a violent rupture sparked by right-wing nationalism.

Mike:  Folks, at the end of the day and at the end of all this discussion — while you’re giving thanks to the Lord, your God, your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to the Blessed Mother and to all the other gifts and bounty that we are fortunate to partake of because He allows us to — while you were thinking about those things on Thursday and while some will reminisce about the men you call founding fathers and the way things used to be and how good it was, there are a couple of things.  Number one, they didn’t view that everything was good, fine, dandy and great.  They viewed, even at that time, that things were not good, fine, dandy and great.  The grand compromise that was the Constitution, there was a schism.  There was basically a 50/50 split.  I would say if you’re historically accurate, more people were opposed than were for.  In the spirit of union, they were willing to give it a try.  With a near 50/50 split, maybe even on the side of those who were derisively called anti-Federalists, does that sound like something to you that was signed off on by every living soul in the land as being irrevocable and indivisible?  That is just ridiculous.  That is beyond the pale.  That is beyond comprehension.  Logical people cannot and would not make that conclusion, yet here sit we talking about the illegality of being able to separate.

The power that separation holds is that it removes the omnipotence of central authority.  There’s only one central authority that’s omnipotent and that’s Him, as in God.  That’s the central authority that is omnipotent.  A central government is not omnipotent.  As soon as it becomes omnipotent, let me think of some of the bad things that would happen after that happens.  You’d have wars being fought by that central government all around the planet.  You’d have wars being fought not funded by that government all around the planet.  You’d have “my way or the highway” invasions and force feeding of rules, regulations and forms of government all around the planet.  You’d have debts run up that were previously in such high numbers that previous entire civilizations of man could not have conceived of.  You would have out-of-control, unaccountable bureaucrats and government agents spread all across a land that was run by the omnipotent government.  You’d have these things called unfunded liabilities.  You’d have no one that cared about them because someone else is going to have to pay them in the future, so why am I going to concern myself with that?  You’d have the rule of man and not the rule of law.  You’d have fiat law, meaning that it was made up, that it’s at will.

You’d have all these things and you’d have them because the central power does not fear breakup.  The central power does not fear the power of those that ultimately are responsible for its creation.  The central power does not exist without the sovereign states and the people in the sovereign states who are sovereigns.  It does not exist unless we say it exists.  That’s what Lincoln killed.  As a matter of fact, that’s my line at the end of the docudrama.  That’s what was snuffed out in 1865 and in the years that followed.  That is what maintains order.  That is what maintains liberties and civil liberties.  That is what maintains separation of powers.  That is what maintains your private property rights.  That is what prevents income and wage taxes from being assigned.  That is what prevents central banking cartels from seizing powers that were manufacture for them by what, by whom?  It certainly wasn’t God.

When you hear about the omnipotence of the central authority, know that you are sowing the seeds of your own destruction.
