This Day In Founding Fathers History – 18 December

On this day in 1787, New Jersey became the third state to join the union upon ratification of the U.S. Constitution. 1

In 1917 on this day, Congress proposed the XVIII Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: “After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.” 2
