Mike:  One of the interesting things about going to conferences, or I think enlightening things about going to conferences is meeting people that listen to this radio show.  AG, we have quite a, what’s the word, quite a diversity of listeners on the Patriot Channel.  A lot of them not only listen to this show.  Here’s what I usually get.  If there were 300 people there at the Nullify Now conference in Raleigh on Saturday, I probably met ten percent of them, I’m going to say 25 to 30, that were regular listeners to the Patriot Channel and to the show.  How do you like that?

AG:  I think we have a very diverse set of hosts here on the Patriot Channel that kind of run the gamut of conservative thought.  You look at some of our Sunday shows, Gary Bauer and Tom Rose are on at 11 a.m.  They would fall under the more traditional social conservatives.  Yourself with the [r]epublicanism.  Then you have guys like David Webb who will straddle the line on both sides of the conservative mantle.  We have a wide variety of conservative thought here just in our own guys in-house, not to mention Beck and Hannity and Levin and the others.

Mike:  We have the listeners across the strata of age demographics.  I met 22-year-olds and in the next hand I’d shake would be a 62-year-old.  I can’t say that one demographic was more represented than the other.  That’s another thing that is encouraging out there.  There are a lot of younger people, younger than I, which doesn’t take very much anymore.  I’m going to be using wheelchair ramps soon, I feel like.  Many younger people are involved in and directly hands-on involved in trying to save their country.  This is what is encouraging.  People always ask me [mocking] “Don’t you think the end is near?  What are we going to do about this?  What are we going to do about that?”  Go to a conference like the one I went to Saturday at Nullify Now.  It doesn’t have to be a Nullify Now conference.  That just happens to be the one that I was at in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Witness all the people that are there, as Tom Woods pointed out, that are giving up and sacrificing an entire Saturday to go learn more about their country, about their form of government, hopefully learn more good things about it, or things that are no longer done that might used to have been done and maybe should be brought back.  I think that is the project that conservatism ought to be engaged in.  Of course, most conservatives disagree with me.  As AG just pointed out, that’s what makes this show the standout amongst the others that it is.  I don’t mean stand out as in popularity; I just mean stand out as in the countervailing measure here.  You meet people from all strata, all walks of life, all incomes.  They’re involved.  As I pointed out, you give an entire Saturday up to go sit in conference rooms and listen to speakers and visit tables and booths and talk to people and get to know one another.

Folks, that is community.  Right there, in and of itself, that is what — when people say [mocking] “What am I supposed to do?  What are we going to do?”  Go to places like that.  That is what you’re supposed to do.  I guarantee you that you will produce more results and will ingratiate yourself to more people that agree with you by meeting them in person and doing something like a conference like a Nullify Now or Tea Party event or whatever the case may be, in person and doing that as something that is an effort in your community.  In other words, if you have to travel tens of thousands of miles to do it, it probably doesn’t have the same effect as the one that’s held right down the street from your house, or the one that’s held in your state or in your town.  It seems to me that not enough emphasis is placed on these things.  It doesn’t have to be planned out and held at convention centers.  You can meet at people’s houses once a week or once a month or so, like we do with the ReFounding Father Society here in southeast Louisiana.

It’s about community.  When you are connected to other people that share your concerns and then you can talk and have an open dialogue, even if you don’t agree about everything, so what?  I guarantee you agree on more things that are important than what it is that Mitch McConnell is going to do tomorrow.  That is very, very far removed from the list of important.  The widow Jenkins down the street not being able to get to the store and we’re all going to pitch in to help, and knowing that the widow Jenkins needs help, that’s important.  Knowing that there are children that might need blood or that there are community members suffering some form of malady and may need medical assistance or food assistance, transportation.  The what is irrelevant.  It doesn’t matter what the what is, or I don’t think it does.  The fact that you know about it and that it’s going on in your community and that there are people that are willing to gather and talk about and then spring into action to do something about it is what’s important.

I think that is the part of self-government that we have totally blown, lost out on, and don’t think is very important.  We tend to think that what Boehner and company are doing is the most important thing in the world.  I would say that our Christian lord would say: Are you guys whacked in your head?  This is how you think you’re going to get into my dad’s kingdom, by worrying and obsessing over what John Boehner and Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer and Harry Reid are doing in a house that pretends to imitate my father?  Really, you think that’s how you’re going to get into my house?  He might call you a Pharisee.  I find hope in those meetings.  I’m always glad to attend.  As a matter of fact, Tom Woods told me that for this particular event, he was not scheduled to go.  He had something else that was on his docket or schedule and it fell through.  He actually called and asked if he could attend because he enjoys attending those events.  I know that this is not the political red meat that you people think you need to tune in for so you can go to work and be angry and scream at some person you call a liberal, but that’s my two cents for the day.
