Mike:  I suppose we could spend the rest of this day and the rest of all of our days moaning about and lamenting the fact that we have a constitution that is not being followed.  It is being ignored.  There are corrupt, designing men that are ignoring it.  We seem to not have leaders.  We seem to not have virtue.  We seem to not have this and that and the other.  As I talked about yesterday when I read that great quote from Edmund Burke about how there are some events — as Jefferson put it: When in the course of human events, the first line of the Declaration.

In human events, there are going to be disagreements.  There are going to be debates.  It’s going to seem like some things that are happening during your time of existence are repugnant to things that have happened in the past that are viewed as good.  This is the nature of human existence.  We have to separate the natural, which is always having disagreements, always thinking things were better in the past and we’re screwing up today, and always believing that we don’t know the future and the end may be near.  Those are the R, S, T, L, N and E of our existence as humans.  To explain the causes and to explain the remedies, you have to establish that first, that certain things are going to happen.  We’ve established that.

What are the remedies?  This is the question that many people are asking, and you ought to be asking.  How is this possible?  How can you fix this?  What’s the remedy?  Let us examine it.  What is the remedy?  I suppose that one of the remedies is that we could continue to have faith, continue to get down on our knees, throw our Mordor on the Potomac River prayer mats down on the ground, bow towards Washington, DC five times a day, and be it to stop, pray for its tender mercies on us and our posterity, which is pretty much what Americans have been doing since the start of the progressive era.  It’s pretty much what Southern Americans have been doing since the foundation of the union.  This has been going on for quite a while.  It doesn’t seem as though the protestations and the process and practice have yielded that much of a differential result?

What is to be done?  There’s a school of thought that I guess you could entertain, that maybe we should just give up, stop worrying about it, stop complaining about it.  Let’s just focus on the good.  We do still have a Super Bowl coming up after all, the Golden Globes.  Your Facebook account is still going to work today.  Who cares who’s actually reading it or snooping on it?  Your iPhone is still going to connect you to a phone number you dial today.  Your Samsung phone is going to work in a similar manner.  You’re going to turn the radio on and I’ll probably be on demand the rest of the day.  Andrew Wilkow will be live later today.  Most of these things are going to continue.

Are we being hoisted then by our own petard?  Do we just believe that the events that have been set in motion and the tragedies we watch unfolding in front of our very eyes are nothing more than illusions of the night?  Are we to believe that they will have no effect into the future and they will not rain despicable terror and tyranny down upon our heads ultimately?  Maybe we should ignore that and say, much like a nightmare you experience while sleeping, once awakened, there’s no fear from the boogeyman.  He was only in your dream.  Maybe this obsession with a controlled government and with corrupt and designing men is an obsession with those that only aspire to power and aspire to tyranny but will never actually act upon it.  Maybe we’re just reacting to what is nothing more than a nightmare and has no chance of becoming reality.

I would suggest to you that many of your fellow citizens believe that is exactly what we are doing.  All one most do is turn on a channel called MSNBC and watch it for thirty minutes on any given day, doesn’t matter what day, doesn’t matter what time, and you will be convinced that that is exactly what’s going on.  These are all apparitions in our minds.  None of this stuff is real.  We are making it all up.  Obama and company love us.  The corrupt class of Republicans and Democrats in Mordor on the Potomac River, they love you.  They’re kind and benevolent souls.  They only care about your happiness.  They only care about your safety and freedoms and liberties.  In other words, their life’s work is making your life work.

If you are to believe that, then I suggest you are to reject reality and reject life as it currently is in these United States, and then to embrace a fantastical manner and mode of living that cannot possibly have anything as its result other than outright and utter despotism.  That’s a word that isn’t used very much these days.  It’s probably defined even less than it’s used.  In John Taylor of Caroline’s great book Tyranny Unmasked, he endeavors to explain what despotism is.  He also endeavored to explain that once the proverbial cat got out of the bag that once kept it captive and held it in check, you can’t put it back in without great and monumental and momentous effort.

My question for you is, if this is all an apparition and all a nightmare and we’re not going to suffer any ill effects of it, shouldn’t we just participate in it?  Shouldn’t the rest of us just get online and get in line and get with it, hold our hands out, open our mouths, and wonder when a federal teat is going to be placed in it so we can begin our suckle?  Or do you remain committed that this is not an illusion, not a nightmare, that it’s actually happening and awful things are going to be the result of it?  I would say the history of the world and the history of the human race suggests the latter is the case and the former is the dream.
