Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – The act and action and activity of marriage is becoming less and less of a solemn act, solemn meaning you don’t break it. You do everything that you have to do or that you can or must do to avoid breaking it. That is just not the way it is viewed today. It is not the opinion of the majority of people, and that’s because we have become a secular people, by and large. Those considerations don’t matter. This is really just, this pursuit of homosexual weddings, the latest assault on tradition. Check out today’s audio and transcript for the rest…

Mike: Robin in Pennsylvania, how are you?
Robin: Hi, fine. Some of these arguments are really crazy. Even that poor man on the stand, oh, my gosh. Everybody wants to be happy and that seems to be the only tenant of our Constitution that the progressives hold onto, the pursuit of happiness. They leave out with morality.
Mike: That’s not in the Constitution.
Robin: I hear you.
Mike: It’s not. The only guarantee you have in the Constitution is the guarantee to a republican form of government. The people of California in a very republican form and in a republican sense and in a republican ballot measure said no.
Robin: Right. Here’s what my idea is. I actually brought it up with a couple of my gay friends when I visited. One of the people around the table, they were a couple. It’s not that people don’t recognize them as couples. If they want recognition, everybody can recognize who is the gay couple. I said: Why do you want to step on the toes of the church? Marriage was instituted by God. Basically what is it about? It’s about money. The other caller you had, it’s about the check on that tax bracket. They want to have the same benefits. If the partner is in the hospital, they want to be able to go see them. If they have a will, they want to have their estate. They want all the benefits of marriage, without that, what should I say — they are kind of going to bully their way into the pulpit to try to get it. I think a nice way to do it is civil ceremonies. Let the states decide who can have that contract and leave the church alone.
Mike: So you’re basically making an LLCS, a limited liability corporation —
Robin: Right. That’s all —
Mike: An LLCS, a limited liability corporation with sex.
Robin: Corporate fellows with benefits. That’s what it’s about. Leave the sanctity of the church alone and allow us our conscientious objection and our morality. Go and let the states decide the path they want to take. If they want to create these contracts, let them. That’s all it’s about, a contract. Keep it out of marriage and make it a legal contract.
Mike: I believe that most people, that would be their preference or answer. There’s something else that’s going on here, and I think you kind of touched on it. Here in the 21st century, too many people that are pursuing the institution of marriage are not pursuing it as an agreement, a holy, sacred agreement made before and under the eyes and jurisdiction of the Transcendent, of a God. It is just something you do so that you can legally be joined — I use the term legally, by man — and participate in certain societal things. As the power of the State rises and as the State purports to control more and more of our social interaction and social activities and our social relationships, the manner in which we may be allowed to enter into them or sever them or refuse to enter into them, then the old traditional way of doing things — [mocking] “Mike, there are just certain things that are right.” — “Why are they right?” — “I don’t know, because people have been doing them that way for 1200 years, that’s why they’re right,” because our faith has told us that these things are good and right and correct. Why are there traditions? I asked this question of someone that was arguing this point with me a couple weeks ago. I said: Why is there tradition? Because a bunch of people decided it. No, it becomes a tradition because it produces good things. If it produces bad things, it probably won’t become a tradition.
The act and action and activity of marriage is becoming less and less of a solemn act, solemn meaning you don’t break it. Pretty soon, there won’t be very many traditions. There will only be traditions that we make up. Will they actually be traditions or will they be actions of the State in its almighty power saying: We know what’s best for you; because we went to Harvard or Yale Law School, we have the power to legally argue this and to shut you and your little Christian or Jewish or Hindu or Buddhist buddies up.
Dark times are upon us, ladies and gentlemen. We are descending very rapidly into that condition in which J.R.R. Tolkien envisioned we would in the Lord of the Rings book. That is an allegory, that book. That is an allegory for Tolkien looking into the future going: Oh, man, this is what’s going to happen. I would ask the question then, where are the Hobbits? Where is Gandalf the gray? Where is the beautiful white Elven goddess to save us from ourselves?
