This Day In Founding Fathers History – 2 April
On this day in 1792, Congress passed The Coinage Act, which created the mint and authorized construction of a mint building in the nation’s then-capital, Philadelphia, the first federal building. The act authorized the production of $10 Eagles, $5 half-Eagles, and $2.50 quarter-Eagle gold coins, silver dollars, half-dollars, quarter-dollars, dimes and half-dimes, and copper cents and half-cents. 1
In 1819 on this day, American Farmer, one of the most successful of the early farm papers, began publication. The journal had the endorsement of men such as Jefferson, Madison, and Pickering, to name a few. The journal was founded by John S. Skinner 2
On this day in 1913, Pennsylvania ratified the 17th Amendment. In 1918, Massachusetts ratified the 18th Amendment. The 22nd Amendment was ratified by Delaware on this day in 1947. Nebraska ratified the 26th Amendment on this day in 1972. 3
