Mandeville, LA – If I have a religious belief that prostitution violates the 5th and 6th Commandments and then choose to not associate with prostitutes, have I pronounced the prostitute as “sub-human?” If there is a Televangelist claiming that his God is THE God and worshipping him requires the purchase of a $569 statue, if I don’t attend his church for fear of violating the First Commandment have I called the pastor “sub-human?” I bring up these questions on the heels of the East Baton Rouge Council voting 8-4, to reject the proposed “fairness ordinance” covering “gay, lesbian and transgendered people.” During debate, Councilwoman Denise Marcelle demanded that her colleagues voting no must “…say that…gay and lesbian people are sub-human.” This is the last resort of the bully who is surprisingly beaten one day on the playground and is an insult to the integrity of her colleagues.

Councilman John Delgado went even further down Sticks and Stones road labeling anyone who disagreed with the ordinance as “prejudiced” and possessed with the “Christian equivalent of Sharia law.” In addition to being ignorant Delgado is a good bet to win Blasphemer of the Millennia. Sharia law could not have begun prior to “the prophet” arriving around 650 years after Christ condemned homosexuality. Does he really think people who oppose open-homosexuality advocate jihad? When asked by Gene Mills, head of the Louisiana Family Forum, to apologize for his slander of Christians Delgado was obstinate “…when Hell freezes over.” It’s a safe bet this guy won’t be hoisting the “Winning Hearts and Minds” trophy anytime soon.
Then there’s the 65 “business leaders” who signed a letter promoting the ordinance. They could’ve just as easily proven the merit of the ordinance’s alleged purpose by continuing to publicly serve those in question without forcing others into compliance. So, who was trying to foist a Commandment on whom?
