If The Big Box Store “Can’t Know Its Customers” Then How Can BIG Media!?

This piece at AM Greatness by Salena Zito, talks about the divide twixt ‘Muricah’s “workers…consumers” and the Oligarchs that produce or pay both, then in this passage, makes the operative statement.

“Once upon a time, owners like Milton Hershey or the Kellogg family were invested in the communities where they, along with their employees and customers, lived, worked, and worshipped,” he said.

Today, McMahon said that connective tissue is broken because owners don’t know their customers, adding they also live far away from most people who work for them and who buy their products. [emphasis mine-MC]

Let me ask the same question? How can similar sized media possibly know their “customers” i.e. viewers or listeners!?
