Dallon on December 1, 2012 You always seem to say what I think and can never put into words,Dude. Did Kevin consider whether hiss 80 yr old parents needed him. My son is a welcome member of our household. He is 34. He drives 45 minutes to work each day and leaves atleast an hour and a half early so he is not late due to weather or a flat tire. His income has saved our “home” from foreclosure. He pays the standard area rent of $700. And receives free catering and laundry service from his mom, who says she would be bored if he wasn’t their. You and Kirk are absolutely correct. The “home” is where families live, not investments for economic gain. My “home” was built so our family could care for my mother in law in her old age. Home is where the heart is and where the family should be and it should be “multi-generational.” Thanx for saying to so adequately. Log in to Reply
Jeffrey Walden on November 30, 2012 That’s what I like about the King Dude, he is trying to help people to think critically about three topics and not just regurgitate the crap they hear all day on supposed conservative radio and tv shows. Unfortunately Kevin did not understand Mike’s point. I lived with my parents for a few years after college and I think it was beneficial for everyone. I was able to pay off my debt and actually save some money while helping my parents do some work on the house. I think they enjoyed having me around, I was not a free loader as I gave them some rent money plus my free labor. I am now now married and have a home where I am raising a family. Keep fighting the good fight Mike! Log in to Reply
Daran Neal on November 30, 2012 Mike – I agree with you/Kirk in basic terms…but what does one do when the child in question (21), doesn’t want to work/go to school or follow the house rules? I moved him out to hopefully get a taste of what it takes to make it… Log in to Reply
Dallon on December 1, 2012 I think I can answer that. The value the young person places on work and self worth begin when he is born, not when he is an adult. At age 20 that person may not respect hard work as a means to get what he needs in life. Some of them are slow developers and need alittle more guidance. By age 30 ,however, they should realize that they need to provide the neccessities of their livelyhood. What I’m trying to away is, no work equals no cell phone, no gas money, no bus fare, no booze, no party. Log in to Reply
Dallon on December 1, 2012 Allow me to add to the previous reply. Several years ago my two children made me cry, actual tears. We were discussing work ethics and they agreed that I was their example. I went to work everyday rain or shine, even when I had to crawl to the toilet and use it and the sink to get in an upright position to go to work. As they described their rememberances, of starting their cars in -25 blizzards in Wyoming. And my dedication to showing up, they said they recall my words. No work today, no payday tomarrow. Both my children are totally self sufficient members of the workforce and would gladly accept me in their household as I would accept them in mine. Log in to Reply
