Russell Kirk was the “father of modern conservatism” a title he never sought yet humbly grew to accept. In many of Kirk’s late writings (he died in 1994) he saw the danger of the “conservative movement” becoming militarized. This was not only a danger for the longevity of the country but was dangerous to the cause of Christianity which a robust conservatism is founded upon. In his “What is Conservatism” I found some wisdom on this score.
