Begin Mike Church Show Transcript

Mike:  Jordan is in the studio, is there in the DC command center with Paul, standing by.

Jordan Bloom:  Hey, Mike, how you doing?

Mike:  J. Arthur, how are you?

Bloom:  Doing very well.  How are you?

Mike:  I am well.  Actually, I find myself distracted a lot lately.  I find myself distracted because every once in a while I will read something and I will make the horrific mistake of scrolling through the comments.

Bloom:  Never a good idea.

Mike:  It’s my own rule and I keep breaking my own rule.  If I would just stick to what’s written, I’d be so much more lively, and probably not so depressed about my miserable state in life these days. When I go and read these comments – I say miserable.  It’s the misery of living amongst such pure, unadulterated evil.  When I go and read some of the comments, as I did last night, and I just browsed through some about ten minutes ago, I must say, I actually look Heavenward and go: What do I have to do to avoid death by asteroid fire?

Bloom:  Anonymity protects a lot of bad people, I guess.  To get back to what you were saying about Jeb Bush, he actually walked that back just yesterday.  He said to reporters that he misspoke, and he still wants to defund Planned Parenthood, which is kind of interesting.  I don’t know if you saw, Jeremy Peters from the New York Times.  He was on Morning Joe just yesterday calling Jeb stunningly inarticulate.  I guess you can be the judge of whether or not that fits.

Mike:  I would ask Mr. Peters: Who is stunningly articulate?

Bloom:  Not too many of those people up there.  Maybe Donald Trump is the best.  Looking at times as if they were being forced to sit through a tedious school assembly.  These people aren’t even engaging with each other.  They’re not creating controversy.  They’re not getting their points across to each other.  They’re just conducting a two-minute canned interview one after another.  That’s not a debate.

Mike:  That’s not a debate.  [mocking Hillary Clinton] “Jeb Bush wants to wage a war against women’s health care.  That’s a war against women and that’s a war against America.”  Of course, she gets more shrill as the answer goes on.

Bloom:  Liz Warren did the exact same thing, too.  Joe Scarborough kind of called her out on it a little bit, pointing out that you don’t have to be against women’s health to want to defund Planned Parenthood.

Mike:  Last time you were here, Jordan, two weeks ago, we talked a little bit about the surge of Donald Trump and about the media obsession with Trump.  If we were talking in terms of being on the street, we would say you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a story on major media about Donald Trump.  That still is true today, although it does appear that it might be slightly on the wane.  What do you think?

Bloom:  Maybe that’s true.  The polling is still strong for him, though.  There are a couple of other interesting things.  It was understood that the relationship between Fox and Donald Trump was not very good.  Bill O’Reilly doesn’t tend to interview him very well, not badly, but he doesn’t tend to be as overwhelmingly positive towards him.  Supposedly Trump had a meeting, a very brief meeting, it was reported to be just a phone call, with Rupert Murdoch.  The reporting on it was that it was cool.  They were sort of putting their differences aside.  That’s pretty interesting.  The Donald, though, he continues to rise, it seems like.  There was that situation of Gawker published his phone number in retaliation because Trump read Lindsey Graham’s phone number a week ago, two weeks ago.  So Gawker published Trump’s phone number.  Instead of letting that stand, he changed the number to a campaign message, which is pretty funny.  Trump is a sideshow.  He’s an entertaining sideshow.  He’s a sideshow that’s polling in first place, so he needs to be taken seriously.

Mike:  Does an entertaining sideshow actually ascend to the presidency?  Is there anyone that seriously is in the leadership of the Republican National Committee – do you think they’re having war room meetings and trying to figure out how they can derail this guy?

Bloom:  I think at this point they probably are, to the extent that Trump can make the other nine of them grow a pair on the stage tomorrow and actually speak with a little more authenticity.  I think that’s what attracts people to Trump.
