Royal Heresy: Harry Can’t Marry Meghan ‘Cause She’s Already Married – I have some real world experience with divorce, annulment and remarriage. I lived in a Josephite marriage for 3.5 years as I discerned then applied for then was granted an annulment of my first marriage. This process, I can witness, will humiliate you while developing a more zealous understanding of the nature of marriage and the Church’s ultimate teaching authority on it. Meghan Markle, who “married” Prince Harry on Saturday, is still married to her first husband and therefore cannot possibly be Harry’s “wife”.

DeceptiCONNED: Faux News AND The NRO Employ Arch Evolutionistas – I’ve often wondered just how it is that men like Jonah Goldberg have risen to become “conservative” stalwarts in my chosen vocation, broadcasting, and in their’s, print. Now comes Goldberg with a new book that I can best describe as the libtard answer to Bishop Chaput, Rod Dreher and Anthony Esolen: Suicide of The West. The fact that Goldberg begins with the title containing seeds of the cult of death is enough to raise suspicion while John Horvat’s review seals the deal.

“Thus, the solution consists of returning to the Lockean ideas of the Enlightenment that gave rise to the Miracle. And that is the problem with the book. Such an abstract solution appears unconvincing in light of the advanced state of decay that he documents. Despite Mr. Goldberg’s passion for the Miracle, his text shows that many do not share his enthusiasm or gratitude for it. It supposedly took us 230,000 years to stumble upon the Miracle; it seems too much to ask that we might re-stumble upon a quick fix during the next election cycle. As authors like Patrick Deneen testify, the liberal Miracle is exhausted.”

Goldberg’s take is that a return to John Locke and the “miracle” of “the founding” will restore order to the galaxy, vanquish Thanos and purchase everyone a ticket to heaven because they are participants in the ‘Murican cult of “I’m a good person”. How someone can be paid extravagant sums of money to offer this hackneyed, worn out “solution” speaks volumes about our current state of intellectual impotency.

Scott Hahn Is All In On His Own “Civilization In Six Words” – Theologian and Catholic convert Scott Hahn has a new book out that is perfectly in sync with my ongoing LIVE lecture: Civilization In Six Words. Hahn’s book is titled The First Society and the reviews I’ve read say that Hahn is hitting on the same solution I am hitting on in CISW: families cerated through sacramental marriages and a familial practice of the faith. Casey Chalk gives us an insight into Hahn’s promotion of marriage.

“Why marriage? Because of the many-pronged assault of the sexual revolution upon this most ancient institution, which has left an impressive degree of wreckage in its wake. In 1969, then-California governor Ronald Reagan signed America’s first no-fault divorce legislation. Within 15 years, virtually every state in the Union had followed suit. From 1960 to 1980, the American divorce rate more than doubled. Today, children exposed to divorce are two to three times more likely than their peers in intact marriages to suffer from serious social or psychological pathologies. Hahn’s analysis of the family’s influence on larger society serves as a sucker punch to America’s gut: “all human societies eventually take on the form and structure of the families that comprise them. A disintegrating culture of marriage will lead to a disintegrating society.” Ain’t that the truth!”

This is the primary point of CISW which is based upon an expanded view of the 4th Commandment. I conclude my talk by pointing out that the commandment has no expiration date and presupposes that “father and mother” are sacramentally married. It is heartening to see this growing body of work that intelligently and charitably offers ‘Murican society a solution to our diabolical anti-cult: Catholicism.

Can It Possibly Get Any Worse? Yes, It Can If These Demographics Continue – There is a story out from Vatican Insider that tells the story of how 59 of 125 “voting Cardinals” have now been chosen by Pope Francis meaning there is a near majority of his confidantes that will elect his successor. When someone says “how can Catholicism’s health possibly get any worse, show them this story. At this point folks, especially seeing as how this is Whit Week, we must double our prayer and mortification efforts and implore the Paraclete for an intercession.

Is “Homey” Success Possible In Modern ‘Muricah? – Gracie Olmstead has an interesting article that updates the biography of Chip & Joanna Gaines, the Fixer Upper TV Show stars. I was surprised to learn about the Gaines’ growing assortment of businesses that include restaurants,  bed and  breakfasts a brand of housewares sold in Target stores and even a cupcake shoppe. Olmstead asks the question of whether the folksy couple can continue to actually live their well-known family life and be titans of ‘Murican commerce. I think this is a perfectly-timed question as the LGBTQ juggernaut wreaks its havoc on Faith anchored public discourse on the family. Note I use the term “anchored” not “based” which I think answers Olmstead’s question: no. You really cannot “have it all” as the argument goes and even libtards are now bragging about the damage “having it all” is wreaking on children, damage they see as “progress”.

Progress: Libertarians Are Now Making Pro-Family Arguments – I must say this is unexpected yet welcome: a writer for several libertarian publications actually quotes Pope Leo XIII in an essay against public school sex-ed classes.

“A family is a hierarchical political order that predates the state and society. When socialist philosophy was threatening familial stability in the late 19th century, Pope Leo XIII wrote an encyclical titled Rerum Navarum in which he argued that a family has rights at least equal to a state in its pursuit of its preservation and liberty. Families, too, have a natural role in society and valid authority that transcends state power in matters traditionally reserved for them.”

Actually, the family has the right to pursue Faith and the Commandments and thus the conservation of the natural order of the family.

More Progress: Libertarian Catholic, Jeffrey Tucker, Pitches Some Catholicism To Mises – Jeffrey Tucker has been a guest on the MCS several times and his conversion to the Catholic faith is pretty well-known. I’ve wondered if Tucker would ever do what other “libertarians”, like e.g. Tom Woods, have mostly avoided: share Catholic social teaching to the economic “theory” obsessed, Mises crowd. I give Tucker credit for his attempt but his lament that catholic writers can’t grasp the reality of “scarcity” in material goods is lame. Anyone whose philosophy is grounded in reality as is that of St Thomas must begin with that reality and its “scarcity” which is why catholic social teaching emphasizes moderation.

The World At War, A Disaster Novel, By Bolton and Bibi -John Bombin’ Bolton has succeeded, after 13 years of trying, in bringing the United States into another land war in Asia, this time with the “regime” of Rouhani in Iran. Why is it that every sovereign government on earth the the DeceptiCONS want to make a war with, is run by a “regime”? Patrick J. Buchanan says there is absolutely no proof that the Iranians “want to develop a nuke” and if there is, let the weapons inspectors go in there, find it and then show it to the world (no, Bibi’s sendup of a Steve Jobs keynote was not proof).

To Catch A [Corndog] Thief – The Mother of Christ stood outside the church, arms, lovingly extended to all who passed by…until 3 kids with corndogs decided to steal her. You MUST read this story!

The Ice World of Hoth Needs Its Guns And The Supreme Court Took Them! – Today’s Veritas et Sapientia delves into the pre-second Amendment world of the Founding Fathers and James Madison as they tried to explain that the unamended Constitution did not empower the Federales to confiscate their guns and that the state militias would be the first, armed, line of defense. Mark Overstreeet at The Federalist argues that in the Heller case the Feds repealed the second Amendment because they made military weapons the only “normal” weapons allowable. Read my takedown of his “universal” keep and bear hullabaloo here.

By Definition a “Nuclear Deal” Is Successful If It Prevents…Nukes & The Iran “Deal” Did That – I’m no fan of nuclear holocaust, matter of fact, I’m no fan of the existence of nuclear weapons. The fact that we live in a world that has tens of thousands of nuclear weapons and that the United States has actually used them, twice, is even more cringe worthy. Having written that, I am driven by fear that President Trump’s ending of the U.S.’s participation in the “nuclear deal” with Iran will result in an escalation of nukes and very likely, Muricah’s entrance into a war. Daniel Larison at the American Conservative put’s John “Bombin'” Bolton’s ridiculous reasoning-if it can be called that- for advising Trump to withdraw in context.

“He calls the agreement the “failed nuclear deal,” but in terms of the only thing it was ever meant to do–restricting Iran’s nuclear program–it has been extraordinarily successful and Iran’s compliance has been verified ten times in a row. When Bolton says that the deal has “failed,” he is measuring it against an unreasonable and dishonest standard that no agreement could ever meet.”

Trump’s instincts on foreign policy and war are usually close to the mark, then he gets conned into accepting his fate as John McCain, President; a horror show every American lover of peace and order should rue.

Congress Has The Nails In Hand To Finish Killing The Constitution – It is a ll about to be over and it will all end in a wave tears the world will weep. The once vaunted U.S. Constitution has survived many assassination attempts, being wounded a bit more on each attempt as the 13 colonies grew to be on monolithic empire under its organization. With the vote to update and extend the “AUMF” that Senators Corker and Kaine have concocted, the nails are in Congress’s hands to finally finish the job. The President will be granted powers no emperor in western history ever has and all evidence suggests he will use them to the detriment of the rest of the world that wishes to pursue peace and diplomacy; ultimately this power will be used domestically to subdue any entities desiring the same or desiring to leave “the party” for the same. The institutionalized, never-ending warfare state is here. Senator Rand Paul is pleading with his colleagues to not do this.

“Handing war-making power from Congress to the executive branch is not an exercise in congressional power. It is the final and full abandonment of that power. It is wrong, it is unconstitutional, and it should be stopped.”

It should be stopped but you know that it won’t. God help us.

The Evil That Is Amazon Has Banned The Saint Benedict Center From Its Smile ProgramBreitbart news has athe story that Amazon has dropped the ADF from its “Smile” program because the SPLC called them a hate-group. What Breitbart didn’t reveal was that Brother André Maries Saint Benedict Center as well as Brother revealed on last Wisdom Wednesday’s show, here.

“Conservatism” In Crisis? Perhaps The First Thing To Do Is To Define “Conservatism” – Robert W. Merry tackles the task of trying to rescue “conservatism” from the downward spiral its been in ever since Ronald Reagan began his second term. This is a noble cause indeed, one that I would say should start with a definition of “conservatism”.

A Civilization In 6 Words: Babies Make Families – Here is Emily Clark’s wonderful little essay Babies Make Families that so many have thanked me for reading on-air I am linking to it so you can read and share for yourself.

“After all, who among us parents doesn’t have people in their lives whom they never would have met if not for their children? These stronger connections are the very bedrock of a strong, thriving society, and our leaders would do well to encourage all of us to continue building these foundations, one baby at a time.”

Clark has written of what Christians used to know as the most important and natural part of their lives, not some anomaly that needs study and explanation.

A Quiet Place: Are Ascendent Demons, Coming For The Kids, The Monsters? – I saw the new film A Quiet Place on Friday night last and I can tell you it is a very special piece of art. A.C. Gleason has a review of it here and I generally agree with what he says about the film with some important additions. For the first time in years, John Krasinski presents a loving family as a single unit with a very strong father at its head. In 2018 this is no small achievement and Krasisnski gets away with it because of the novelty of silence he introduces in the film. I don’t want to spoil the plot but the family schemes to thwart the ravenous creatures that cause the silence from feasting on the family’s newest addition: a baby. There’s so much to like about this film I plan a full review later this week. This is 4 Reagan movie-making here, go see it!

Why You Need To Listen To The Pearcing Truth’s Series On Economics As If Families MatteredThe Federalist headline screams the current state of our civil, “economic” affairs. Yo, Big Business: Money Doesn’t Give You A Right To Manipulate Politics. It doesn’t? Then are you ready to begin implementing a system of Distributism, solidarity and subsidiarity? While ‘Murican Government has become the national religion, business and the exchange of money for pleasure and profit have become her powerful parishioners. Since we rarely know the people who grow or make our food or anything else for that matter, business has become a ubiquitous, requisite agent for exchange of what we want, mildly tempered by what we are willing to borrow to get it. Micro systems of barter exchange are gone, save for the rare entities that have carved out niche markets serving the locals, folks we used to call friends and neighbors. My ongoing feature series with the author of Small Is Still Beautiful, Joseph Pearce, delves heavily into this subject and is MUST LISTENING for anyone truly interested in avoiding Amazon et al from controlling the food supply and thus what is acceptable, secular behavior to get it. Download all 4 Episodes here.

The book’s stories are harrowing from the point of view that bodies and lives are being physically altered with no chance of repair. This is being done, allegedly, to bring about a more fairer world in which those born into the bodies of the sex they believe is not for them. But what is fair about having your breasts cut off while being doped up with drugs that get you banned from any professional sport? This is the work of Beazelbub and the boys and the poor souls who undergo these mutilations are the prizes.

The Religion That ‘Murican Politics Has Become – When Donald Trump as President, shows up at a rally to commemorate or promote something, the event takes on a religious tone; think about it. Before the President – the priest – enters the temple – the speaking stage – prayers are recited in unison – the Pledge of Allegiance – then an opening canticle is chanted – the National Anthem – then the priest makes his procession to the altar – the dais with the holy crest of the office of the President – then the priest begins “the mass” – making the political pronouncement and explaining why it is good for the congregation. When “the mass” is finished, the choir strikes up a driving beat of a “patriotic song” which serves as the post communion hymn and then the congregation takes leave to go and evangelize the gospel they just took in to unwashed masses – let the conversions begin! Michael Davis writes of this and makes the proper conclusion: All Politics Is Religion.

“Movement conservatism, meanwhile, is a kind of Protestantism. The Constitution fills the role of the Bible. It is immutable, if not infallible, and we must hold it, as Hamilton said, in “sacred reverence.” Like Protestantism, this conservatism defines itself by what it isn’t—monarchism, socialism, etc.—just as Protestantism is a blanket term for those Christian sects that arose in opposition to the Catholic Church. Jefferson and Adams are like Calvin and Luther: united by a common enemy more than a common creed.”

Armed with my description of a ‘Murican “Conservative Church” service, next time you see this transpire on Fox News and the propagandists for the faith wait breathlessly for the priest to arrive and mass begin, see if my description above is correct and if it is, know then what the takeaway is: The Faith has been replaced in most ‘Murican’s daily lives by the faith (sans caps intentional) in ‘Murica.

It’s May 2018 And The Immodesty Is About To Go Nuclear Because It WENT Nuclear – Venerable Bishop Sheen called out ‘Muricah back in the 1960’s while speaking to a group of young Catholics on “Youth and Sex”: “8:15 in the morning, the 6th of August, 1945, when we flew a military plane over this city, when we dropped that atomic bomb on it; that bomb on blotted out boundaries. There was no longer a boundary between the military and the civilian, between the helper and the helped, between the wounded and the nurse and the doctor, between the living and the dead. For even the living who escaped the bomb were already half dead. So we broke down boundaries and limits and from that time on the world has said we want no one limiting me. … You want no restraint, no boundaries, no limits. I have to do what I want to do. Now let’s analyze that for a moment, is that happiness?”

The Tragedy of Post Christian, Philosophia Perennis Devoid Thinking – Read this piece from AmConMag writer Noah Millman to get a closeup view of why Philosophia Perennis is so desperately needed to corral the erroneous thinking Men are sure to engage in when NOT grounded in the eternal quest for True Wisdom i.s. Sapientia. The issue Noah, is not whether “only the Saints” can live by the Magisterial code, it is that by God’s Grace the Saints DID live the Tradition WHILE receiving the Graces needed to do so. You cannot approach Grace as zero sum, mathematics, as in if I do ______ I will receive ______ “Grace credits” but if I do ______I will have deducted ______ Grace Credits. Grace is present in the world and we are given the supply needed at Baptism, the suffering of the Christian Faithful is simply to maintain the state you enter at Baptism, using the Gospels and the Traditional Teaching as MEANS to that END. As Padré Gaetano tells us in Humility of Heart: “And has not a saint abundant reasons, from the thought of his own weakness, to live always in a state of great humility, when he knows that from one hour to another he may lose the grace of God and the kingdom of heaven which he has merited by years of laboriously-acquired virtues? “Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”
