The notion of liberty is what this country was built on – but what does the phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” actually mean? It means freedom is something given to you, but something you have to earn as well – by participating in society. Mike explains that it all stems from our beginnings to break from England. He adds, “According to the Constitution, you have rights, but only when you participate in the society. You have to earn your right into that protection. That’s why criminals don’t have rights.”
