Mike:  Christendom had vanquished the Muslim hoard, didn’t it?

Chris Ferrara:  Catholic Christendom and Catholic Christendom aided by the militancy of Catholic warriors turned back the tide of Islam, the Battle of Lepanto, the Siege of Austria and so forth.  If it weren’t for the defensive activities of the Catholic Church, the hoards would have overcome Europe centuries ago.  Now, of course, the same process is being repeated, and, as Hilaire Belloc predicted, it would be a nonviolent re-conquest of Europe by Islam.  Why?  Because Christianity has become spiritually exhausted.

The precondition for that happening, of course, was the fragmentation of Christendom on account of a Protestant revolt, the division of a once-unified Christendom into Protestants and Catholics, the Protestants in turn subdividing into hundreds of sects, if not thousands of sects.  The unified opposition was lost.  Now we see the death throes of former Christendom, as I said a moment ago, preparing its own grave, hastening to complete the act of suicide that began almost 300 years ago when the authority of the Catholic Church was overthrown in social order and Church was separated from State.

Mike:  Of course, separation of Church and State is something that Americans and the rest of the Western world now boast and brag about.  This is our great accomplishment.  How great are we?  As a matter of fact, they were celebrating that two, three days ago in Brussels, weren’t they?

Ferrara:  The typical objection to the idea that separation of Church and State was a disastrous mistake was, [mocking] “You’re talking about a theocracy, aren’t you?”  That’s not what we mean when we talk about a unification of Church and State.  We mean that the State operates within its own sphere and the Church operates within her own sphere, but that there is a connection between the two, which Pope Leo XIII likened to the connection between the body and the soul.

What it really means in practice is not that the Church runs the State and pulls the levers of governmental power in some direct fashion as if bishops would be politicians.  What it means is the Church serves as the moral compass, the soul of the State, directing the decisions of lawmakers and judges and administrators in matters that pertain to the moral order.  When that connection was cut, Leo said, the effect was like removing a soul from a body.  Now you have a rotting corpse.  That’s what Europe is today.  It’s a rotting corpse because it’s lost its soul.  It does not have a spiritual life any longer.  That’s why we see this insanity of the endless welcoming of these so-called refugees into Europe.  This is obviously a mass movement of radical Islamists for the purpose of reconquering Christian lands.  It’s happening before our eyes.  What do we do?  We cheerlead our own self-destruction.

Mike:  There’s an interesting headline at the top of the DailyMail.com.  I’ll read it to you, “’I don’t know what to do. If I give myself up I’ll end up in a cell’: airport suicide bomber left note in a bin before blowing himself up in airport – as police reveal ‘the man in white’ is still on the run.”  They’re now finding out who the man in white is, the other guy that’s captured on closed-circuit TV.  Come to find out, he is a well-known athlete of Indian or Islamic or Arabic or whatever you want to call it descent.  I guess Arabic descent.  He is now living in Brussels and is actually connected to some Olympian from Belgium.

What you’re going to find out here is that the Muslims that perpetrated this act were the same Muslims that were seen at the convenience store that morning or the day before or last week, or showed up at Little Jenny’s eatery down the block, or showed up at a coffee shop, and were just hanging out and looked like they were just a part of everyone else’s daily European, Brussels, Belgium routine.  In other words, there are enemies out there.  You’re not going to see them because the radicals practice taqiyya.  They know how to practice taqiyya, which is they lie in order to forward and to advance Islam, right?

Ferrara:  And we’re inviting them into our midst.  The policy is indescribably insane.  I have to say it’s been aided and abetted by the Vatican itself.  Sorry, but the idea that this pope, on Holy Thursday, is going to kiss and wash the feet of Muslim so-called refugees – the best thing you can say about it, in view of what just happened in Belgium, is utterly tone deaf.  It’s time to recognize that this is not all about the pope and his displays of mercy.  It’s about the survival of what was once Christian Europe.

It’s time for the Vatican to wake up and recognize that this nonsense of endless dialogue with people who despise us, reject the divinity of Christ, and want to destroy Christianity and plant the Muslim flag atop St. Peter’s has to end.  No more dialogue.  It’s time to return to the church’s traditional stance with respect to Islam, one of fierce opposition in the name of Christ.  Does that mean violence?  It doesn’t necessarily mean that at all, unless it comes to resisting a violent onslaught.  What it does mean is, for one thing, a sensible policy regarding these people that the pope insistently calls refugees.  They are not refugees.  They are infiltrators.  Open your eyes, Pope Francis.  Open your eyes, Vatican apparatus.  Stop the nonsensical depiction of these people as refugees and recognize what Viktor Orban says.  They are invaders.

Listen to what he said in his speech recently that you provided to me.  He said that, “It is not permitted to say that millions are ready to set out in our direction.  It is forbidden to say that immigration brings crime and terror to our countries.  It is forbidden to point out that the masses arriving from other civilizations endanger our way of life, our culture, our customs, and our Christian traditions.”  Of course they do.  This blindness on the part of even authorities in the Catholic Church has to have an element of the diabolical.  Sister Lucia referred to “diabolical disorientation” in the Catholic Church.  She said that in light of the message of Fatima.  Clearly that’s what’s going on today.  Too many churchmen from the top on down have become blind guides leading us all into a ditch.

Mike:  This is what was written at Rorate Caeli about the bombings in Brussels, if you missed it:

[reading]

They have got what they wanted — “they” being the Socialist politicians in Belgium who, for decades, in many cases making clear they were trying to influence demography for political reasons, allowed Islam to grow, become native, and grow once more, and radicalize, while at the same time alienating the Catholic culture that was the only thing which had made Belgium (that is, the unity of Dutch-christopher_ferrara_mary_statuespeaking and French-speaking Catholics of the Low Countries) possible.

The Passion of Europe now goes on before our eyes, day after day . . .

Mike:  There are few, though, and Orban may be one of the only ones, there are few that recognize that what has now been set back into motion is what was once in motion, which is, as you referred to, during the ages of Catholic Christendom, the Mohammedans’ assault on the Christian world.  We know, at the time that Mustafa Pasha or Ali Pasha – I can’t remember – whoever the general was that was camped out in front of King Leopold’s castle in Austria, in Vienna.  He sent a letter in there – you know this letter.  He sent a letter in there to King Leopold and said: I’m going to break the walls of that city down.  When I do, I’m going to sodomize your wife.  I’m going to sodomize your daughter.  When I’m finished with them, I’m going to cut their heads off and I’m going to sodomize their necks.  When I’m done with that, I’m going to cut your head off and I’m going to sodomize you.  Then when I’m done with that, I’m going to march through Vienna, straight to Rome.  I’m going to find the pope, find the pope, cut his head off, sodomize him, and I’m going to raise a crescent star flag up over the Vatican.  That’s the goal.

Ferrara:  The same threats are being repeated today by the same people who are quite simply animals.  They run around raping women.  You know about the German incident, the gang rape committed by a thousand so-called refugees.  You know what Angela Merkel did.  She ordered destruction of the videotape of that crime in progress because we don’t want to offend the Muslim community.  Again, this is diabolical disorientation.  It’s an entire civilization committing suicide before our eyes.

We mentioned Viktor Orban.  Let’s say something about who he is.  He’s the prime minister of Hungary, a post-communist nation which had a post-communist liberal constitution.  Orban is not even a Catholic.  He’s a Protestant.  He formed a coalition with the majority Catholic constituents in the parliament.  Hungary is about 60 percent Catholic.  That coalition brought to a vote and passed by an overwhelming majority a Christian constitution for Hungary that acknowledges Hungary’s Christian roots, that contains a pro-life amendment saying that life begins at conception, that defines marriage as between a man and a woman.  Basically it resets the foundations of Hungarian society to something resembling a Christian commonwealth.

Now Orban is taking the lead in telling Europeans that they’re not free.  They are in the changes of political correctness.  His speech is magnificent.  Here’s something else he said, “It is forbidden to say that in Brussels they’re constructing schemes to transport foreigners here as quickly as possible and to settle them here among us. It is forbidden to say that the purpose of settling these people here is to reshape the religious and cultural landscape of Europe and to reengineer its ethnic foundations, thereby eliminating the last barrier of internationalism.”  I have to say, again, the Vatican is cooperating in this project.  This is an aspect of what we believe to be, you and I, Mike, and a lot of other Catholics, the worst crisis in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church.

Mike:  And we’re living in it.  I have to be careful of how I say this because I don’t want this to come across the wrong way.  In every epoch when there has been this kind of turmoil in the Roman Church, there has always arisen a series of men and women who ultimately we would know today as saints that came to her defense and set the people, set the laity right.  Of course, the leadership is going to follow the laity when they have their prideful vocations at stake.  My read on that and the history of it is that’s the way it has happened.  I can’t remember if it was Pope Pius XI or some other mystic at the time that said this was going to happen.  It might have even been St. Faustina Kowalska who prophesied this, that this was going to happen and you weren’t going to be able to look to Rome or even your archdiocese bishop or priest, that the laity was actually going to have to do this and it was going to have to lead.  Is that where we are?

Veritas_earbuds_listenFerrara:  That’s exactly where we are.  There’s an essay on this by the late, great Cardinal Newman on “Consulting the Faithful in Matters of Doctrine.”  He talks about the time of the Aryan crisis in the 4th century where virtually the entire Church was overcome by the Aryan heresy, which essentially reduced Christ to an exalted human being who was not the second person of the Holy Trinity.  That heresy swept over the Church.  It wasn’t that all of the bishops, all of the cardinals, and the pope actually internally accepted this heresy.  It’s rather that they were reluctant to oppose it, that they failed to defend the faith when they were called upon to do it, and that Liberius, under pressure, signed a semi-Aryan formula.  He was coerced to do so but nonetheless he signed it.

What Newman says in this essay is that from Liberius on down, including the bishops, there was a failure to defend the faith, and that the laity, the Church that has taught, did a better job than the church that teaches of maintaining the faith during the Aryan crisis.  We’re looking at that situation again today.  There are very few exceptions among the hierarchy.  We’ve seen, at best, craven silence in the face of the advance of Islam and the advance of the dictatorship of relativism, as Pope Benedict called it.  At worst we see positive approval of it.  Again, this idea, in the aftermath of this massacre, the second in the heart of Europe, kissing the feet of Muslims in a refugee center?  Really?  Is that what Holy Thursday is all about now, bowing to political correctness?
