Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – The whole disaster is all tied to the same error.  The error is modern thinking, which is not thinking at all.  Generations upon generations upon generations of people before us, men, were all taught to think.  You learn how to think through the study of philosophy.  We’ve been over this.  Check out today’s transcript for the rest….

Mike:  Moral theology also prohibits adultery.  I don’t know if anyone is keeping up with this anymore.  I know it used to be: Well, can I get away with it?  Well, if you can, then you should do it.  I guess.  [mocking] “All people have a right to marry.”  No, they don’t.  They have been prevented many times.  This is where bigamy and polygamy are going to come up.  The whole disaster is all tied to the same error.  The error is modern thinking, which is not thinking at all.  Generations upon generations upon generations of people before us, men, were all taught to think.  You learn how to think through the study of philosophy.  We’ve been over this.

That’s why tonight David Simpson and Brother Andre Marie and I will host a chat room conversation.  We will listen to the eleventh lecture in a series of 24 from Brother Francis on the subject of logic, minor logic.  We’ll listen to Brother Francis the first hour.  We’ll start playing that around 6:00, if you’re interested in stopping by the philosophia perennis chat room.  Drop me a note via email and I’ll add you to the list so that you can log in and chat with Brother Andre and David and I.  Afterwards we’ll have a discussion about what we’ve learned.  The fascinating thing is, about the same amount of people show up every week.

We know that learning logic – this is the hardest part of it – is difficult, but we also know that it’s intriguing. Your mind and your intellect will start telling you, once she start learning minor logic – scholastic logic is taught by Aristotle, perfected by St. Thomas Aquinas in what we called Thomistic philosophy.  Once you start learning minor logic, the whole world that you know today is going to change.  I’ve talked about this before.  You want to talk about #liferuined because you started listening to this show, this will be #liferuined #steroids because you will not believe the utter inanity that we live amongst today.

People think that we live in an age of science.  So?  Aristotle lived in an age of science.  Read Aristotle.  You’ll see all kinds of science stuff in there.  St. Thomas lived in an age of science.  So?  Science is just that, it is science.  It is not the be all end all; faith is, spirituality, the second dimension – you have your natural and supernatural.  You have natural law and supernatural law.  Supernatural law rules natural law.

As a matter of fact, speaking of this, GK Chesterton writing in his – first he writes a book called Heretics because he sees all this stuff going on around him and he predicts that Europe is going to become secular, then pagan, then atheist.  They’re between the second and third now.  He writes a book called Heretics and identifies what’s the problem and who’s at fault, what’s at fault, etc. Then a bunch of eggheads come out and say: Who are you, Mr. Chesterton, to be chastising us?  Chesterton says: Oh, I’m wrong?  We shouldn’t fret over our loss of orthodoxy?  Then he writes the response to his critics called Orthodoxy.

In Orthodoxy, he explains why you can’t be or shouldn’t be pursuing the modern heresies, scientism being one of them, nominalism – I don’t mean to confuse people with these terms.  Scientism basically says that there is no God and everything can be tied back to an electron or the “God particle” now that they’re all obsessed with, pulsars and subatomic particles and that explains everything.  No, it doesn’t.  All it does is say that those things exist.  It doesn’t explain how they got there.  There’s one way to answer this question that children can answer and understand it and they believe it.  God created it, pretty simple.  Go back to that and proceed from the humble point of view that that’s what happened and bammo, all of a sudden things start to click.
