Mandeville, LA – Exclusive Transcript – Why do they continue to tell us that there really is no God and he has no part in any of our affairs public or private? Why do they continue to tell us that there is no such thing as good manners, because if you exhibit good manners you must be some sort of a chauvinistic, bigoted pig? Why, Mr. Church, why? The why is because there is no Him. He has been chased out of our lives. Check out today’s transcript for the rest…

Mike: Russell Kirk has a nice cheering corner at the Imaginative Conservative website. Winston Elliott, III is the editor and he posted this a couple days ago. By the by, yours truly was named as a senior contributor to the Imaginative Conservative website. We were talking two days ago about what is beauty and how come we don’t look for beautiful things? Instead we look for ugly things and make everything ugly because that’s how we deal with our own failings in our Facebook / Twitter world. Kirk wrote something about this that I thought was very applicable to today’s discussion.

What is the object of human life? The enlightened conservative does not believe that the end or aim of life is competition; or success; or enjoyment; or longevity; or power; or possessions. He believes instead, that the object of life is Love. He knows that the just and ordered society is that in which Love governs us, so far as Love ever can reign in this world of sorrows; and he knows that the anarchical or the tyrannical society is that in which Love lies corrupt. He has learnt that Love is the source of all being, and that Hell itself is ordained by Love. He understands that Death, when we have finished the part that was assigned to us, is the reward of Love. And he apprehends the truth that the greatest happiness ever granted to a man is the privilege of being happy in the hour of his death.

Mike: Just put that on my tomb. Then we have this from this month’s Chronicles magazine on the subject of our vainglorious democracy that Mr. Scheuer was talking about, how we’re trying to shove it down the throats of the rest of the planet and certainly of the Middle East. We all talk about “we the people.” Well, what does the people mean, writes Claude Polin at Chronicles.

…which means the people had to assume both temporal and spiritual power. There could be no conceivable power or authority superior to theirs. Even though this much is obvious, there was still a great many who refused and still do refuse to see the evidence. [Mike: He’s talking about the French Revolution.] Would the people possess true sovereignty if they were obliged to tolerate some particular ideas or to respect some particular creeds, whatever they think of them, or to regard some particular laws as eternal and universally valid and binding whatever the circumstances, whatever their feelings, whatever their will? Then there is no beating about the bush. In a democracy, there is no real law because the law is only the will of the people, a will that has no law by itself and may change any time. There are no moral principles because the good is only what the people say is good, no faith because the only faith is in a lawless liberty to decree what to believe in. There is no honor, no loyalty, no sense of duty, not because man is a fallible being but simply because honor and duty depend on what the people think is honorable. There is no beauty because beauty depends on what the people think is beautiful. Who has not seen the people declare beautiful certain artifacts made to appear ugly? There is no truth because the truth is what the people declare to be true. Isn’t history today rewritten by the people on a regular basis? [Mike: You can bet your bottom dollar, Mr. Polin.] There is no respect for man because citizens respect one another only inasmuch as they have agreed to do so. Are good manners not disappearing? There is no sense of what a man should be because there is no human nature. Since the sum of man’s nature is only to be free, the only thing he can consider to be his nature is what he decides to consider natural for him. Just think of the so-called “gender theory.” There is no nature pure and simple because the people’s will, using modern science, acts as the creator of all things, the new and only true god. Think of biological research today. In a democracy, nothing is sacred because the sacred is merely the ever-changing will of the people.

Mike: When you combine those two things right there and think about those two men’s writings and their statements, and put that together in the context of all the questions you have about why: Why, Mr. Church, do these men continue to torment us with their government and their taxes and their regulations and their murder and their aggression in foreign affairs? Why do they continue to tell us that there really is no God and he has no part in any of our affairs public or private? Why do they continue to tell us that there is no such thing as good manners, because if you exhibit good manners you must be some sort of a chauvinistic, bigoted pig? Why, Mr. Church, why?

Mike , the decency you long for in the American culture will come when we realize as you have, that love is not a weakness . You are such a power of example that I am a better man because I listen to and respect what you say and do. You are indeed a good Christian gentleman . It’s an honor to petition The Lord on your behalf as I do . Some day I’d like to shake your hand and thank you for the many times you have pulled me out of my own discouragement . May God continue to bless you and your family this Holy season. By the way I’m the proud grandpa of two new twin daughters, Gemma and Lucia. I smoked an el Rey dude corona and enjoyed more than any cigar I’d smoked before. Rick desmond
